What's going on? My post was here this morning, now it's gone. I know the board has changed to yuku, but has it messed with our threads as well?
Here's what I posted in the wee hours of the morning... It was a great show. I had a wonderful time. Ben Folds was fun to watch. He sure liked throwing his
stool. He was posing for fake pictures. His hands were so fast when he was playing! I swear they blurred. It was neat to see him play his keyboard and the
piano at the same time. I just let myself take it all in during the show. I didn't care how ridiculous I looked as I bounced along and occasionally threw
my hands up on the chorus during Good Love. There were more ridiculous looking people in front of me. They had a "magical" light up clear acrylic
heel shoe and were pounding it into lighted effects and shouting John's name. They were having a great time as well.:) Gravity was awesome with the
lighting. The effect reminded me of my obsession to photograph the sun breaking through the clouds. John was funny and talked about people blogging about what
he says in between songs and making it their signature in messageboards. I'll be silly and put it in my signature for a while, just to help me feel
nostalgic tomorrow. I loved the acoustic encore. Slow Dancin' was gorgeous. My husband was still high on energy after the show so we decided to ditch
traffic and see Pirates 3 at the movie theater next to the venue. I am so tired right now, but we did dodge all the traffic and enjoy ourselves at the same
time. Whew. Off to bed.

I have a feeling there will be a huge discussion about this on tryjm.com! The setlist really wasn't good, I was surpsised that no one bitched about it here
already....

John is so stealth sometimes, so I guess he does look in on us every once in a while.....whoops. LOL
"I have played many shows and have seen lots of signs but the left handed kiddy font, JOHN MAYER LETS DO BODY SHOTS", takes the cake!" "Of
course it is implied we are going to do it."

that guys review sucked ass.... he suggested John not play No Such Thing and Gravity

Maybe his review wasn't spot on, but I agree with what he is essentially saying. The setlists have been roughy the same for almost a year now. The order
changes, but most of the time the songs have been identical, with 2 or 3 variations. I understand the predicament JM is trying to please the hardcores and the
casuals (who may only know BTMB, NST, YBIAW, Georgia, Waiting, etc), but some of the excitement in going over and over again, was you never knew what he was
going to play. That's still true in the first few slots in the encore. However, I'd be lying if I said I was still hellbent on hitting up 4 or 5 shows
on this tour as I have been in previous tours.
I guess part of it is, is that we big fans love a great combination of all his stuff. I don't mind the Continuum stuff being in the sets every night, seeing his touring behind the album. But to shift in/out the old stuff would be a great. I know I'd love to hear stuff like City Love, Covered in Rain, Back To You, Not Myself, Another Kind of Green, Home Life, SSS...Itr'd be great to throw in Bold As Love too. It was suggested to take Gravity out, I vehemently disagree. Songs like that, Find Another You, Need No Doctor, are different each and every night (much like CBTB was back in HT Tour). They are on fire wiht these tunes. I can't get enough of Another You/Gravity live. For me, to take out stuff like NST, BTMB, Georgia (which are the same versions they were in 2001 more/less) would be a good refresher. Keep 1 of the 3, or 2 of the 3, and spice it up a bit. Let's face it too, compared to some other artists, John doesn't play all that long anyway. It's usually 1:30-45. |

Maybe he's not taking into account that some of you go to several shows. If you're poor like me and only go to one, the lack of setlist changes
doesn't really matter as long as he plays a good/great show on the night I go. (Which he did, thanks.)
Just a thought. Work sucks, Summer

Here's my take on a personal level.
I really can't complain. I had a good time. My night isn't ruined just because he doesn't play a certain song. I went to a show on the winter tour and this show was just as exciting. I like the "casual fan" songs just as much as I love the "hardcore fan" songs. This is the CONTINUUM tour. He's going to play more CONTINUUM songs. Maybe it's my limited means, but I can't afford to go to a ton of shows. I get in trouble with my family when I go to any shows anywhere outside of Phoenix. I'm deemed a money-waster and/or get teased about my Mayer obsession. No one understands. I like his music A LOT. I want to see him play... is that a crime? If I had tons of money and time then I'd be right there with you on the argument. I wouldn't like to spend a ton of money traveling around the country to hear the same songs being played every night. But you have to realize the amount of people that go to more than one show on a tour is really small. John Mayer can't please everyone I guess.

And yet for the number of shows I have seen with the same setlist...I have never once stepped out of a show thinking ..wow what a waste of money...he did the
same freaking set list I saw a couple of nights ago. I think it's all in your attitude... I have never been to a Mayer show where I walked out and said wow
that was really awful I should have stayed home and watched tv...it's music it's live and it's great...I don't go expecting to be surprised or
thrilled or be that one group that gets the "magic song" of the night...sure I could use less NST..or WG...but those are staples of his career...I am
just thrilled this tour I hear less daughters...
I think back to Van Morrison when I saw him at the bowl last time and he did none..nada ziltch of his old stuff just the new stuff...could I have heard brown eyed girl sure..but the set was good and not having kept up with Van's career that much..I enjoyed it... I certainly didn't go out grumbling and saying wow what a waste of money... It's in your attitude I guess..I am more concerned with the girl that is spilling her beer on me or the guy who threw up in the next box or the screamer whos has just outed my hearing..than What Mayer plays Play away John... and I think Somnilioquence said it best mosty people don't go to more than one show... and John Mayer can't please everyone debbie

People have to remember that he is not playing for the people that shows up to almost every show, he is playing for the audience at each show, most of who will
only attend one show. He is playing from the Continuum album, for the Continuum tour, the complaining about the setlists is a bit ridiculous.

Debbie, I agree with you partly. I never leave a JM show dissatisfied. It is why I go over and over again. His live show is fantastic. I do the same with
theater, and those are the same setlists.
But I do not believe, being as big as a fan as you are, that your mindset is simply going to the show wihtout hoping to hear something different. You hint at it saying "I could use a little less WG or NST." I am not going to any show and thinking he'll blow the set list up. Not at all. But to throw in, or rotate, a rarity would make every show "special." I almost feel like that's what it was like back in the HT tour. One song would make that show, whether it be Des Moines or Rochester, special. Perhaps I am wrong. Being at the Syracuse show in February, it was almost like JM showed up, played a show because it was on the itenirary, and that's all. Now don't get me wrong, none of us are entitled to anyhting more than that. It was definitely a good show. His standard of performance is quite high, and his live shows are fantastic. But it lacked something. Perhaps it was because the Garden was the next night, who knows. Being at the MSG show too, it was a staple of his career, and the "special"-ness of that show, was incredible. It blew the previous night out of the water. But I used to feel that way every show I went to back in the day. Now it seems to have faded, somewhat. Maybe it's me. I always have a great time, and love to see the guy play anywhere and as often as I possibly can. That's all I am saying. |

Just to leapfrog off of Debbie's points - I think a lot of people here seem to expect too much (as always) from John. It's as if he doesn't go at
110% every night and change the set list up and play Outside In The Underground there are people who go away disappointed.
How many people here have ever done an arena tour, or for that matter undertaken a tour of any kind? I haven't, but I do know how much time, money and thought goes into it. A performer of John's stature has to take into account that the vast majority of people coming to his show are casual fans who may have one CD, or only know his songs from the radio. Most don't go to show after show after show. John has to please EVERYONE. When people start to complain about the same-ness of the set lists and wonder why he doesn't play more of his most obscure songs, you're not putting yourself in the position of the 99% of those who are attending a show, and are enjoying themselves. It comes off as selfish and, for lack of a better word, bitchy, even if that wasn't the intention. Maybe people miss the old John, when he was young and new and jammed because he didn't have enough songs, in other words when he wasn't as polished as he is now. People change and mature, even if people don't want them to. I've used this analogy here before, but if John found a cure for cancer, there are people here who would whine about the side-effects. |

Can someone please explain the story behind "Cats are cute. Kittens are cuter."?

To explain the story in a nutshell, he essentially said that people are always taking what he says between songs and blogging about them or putting them in
their signatures. So he came up with a new signature for us at the concert. You can check out the youtube video... it's in the Cats are cute, but kittens
are cuter (John made me do it) thread.
