I dont think The Bucket List was eligible as it has not been released yet!!! So John still will have a shot at an Oscar!

Jojo, I think movies or songs can be nominated for a Golden Globe even if they haven't come out yet. Julia Roberts was nominated for Charlie Wilson's
War and that doesn't open until next week.

a lot of times movies go to 'limited release' to make sure they're in contention for awards season. also, it doesn't matter if the movie's
not in theaters. a friend of mine's dad is on the academy and ever year, they get a nice little present of many of the movies in contention on DVD (before
they've been released) so they can watch them in their footie jammies over the holidays.

I just heard SAY on my favorite radio station here in San Diego, KPRI
102.1...(however, the dumb dj said, "...from John Mayer's latest smash album,
Continuum..." wtf ?? lol ) It was so cool to hear it on the
radio! Yay!

Well, hopefully it prompts new people to buy the album, even if 'Say' isn't in it

But the download of Say is in the album.
I resent the implication.

Jojo - The Bucket List was eligible. These awards are for the calendar year 2007 and movies are screened for critics to get a heads up on awards season.
Sweeney Todd has gotten all these nods and isn't out for another week.

I don't remember if I said anything about it, but this is a beautiful song and I really like it.

And I agree with you, Shannon! It's a lovely song and I really like it. Hearing it on the radio kind of clinched it for me...the station was doing some kind of contest between that song by JM and something new from Tristan Prettyman. Unfortunately she was winning as she's homegrown from San Diego! Oh well...

I just saw a commercial for "The Bucket List" and "Say" was playing in the background. John was using the ever-so-artistic
"dadada" to sing the verse (instead of the words), but they played the chorus.

I just got back from watching The Bucket List this afternoon. Can't say much about the film but I really wish they had used "Say" as A PART of
the film, instead of at the end. I was aghast to see how quickly people left the theater as the credits rolled (which is when the song is played, sadly). A
whole lot of people IMO are just missing out on hearing a great song, in a theater setting, which makes it sound 10 times better than it already does on say an
iPod or the laptop. Well, in effect, that probably gives you a good idea how good the movie is too, because it's been my experience that if a movie is
good, people usually stick around, to absorb the film and process what they've just seen. (SPOILERS AHEAD ----- DON'T READ AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T
SEEN THE FILM AND PLAN TO SEE IT ----- FILM SPOILERS AHEAD) I would have loved to hear the song as Jack N's character meets his daughter/granddaughter and
they show Morgan F after he's died. If not the whole song, a portion of it, just so audiences would have gotten a taste of the song, so that when it is
played at the end, people would stick around and enjoy the song in its entirety. Also, on a sidenote, this film was filled with discrepencies (and movie
discontinuities) ... the most striking is when Jack's charachter visibly shreds the "the bucket list" only to have it reappear in his hands at
the funeral in the end. And then, there are numerous scenes of discontinuities, like in the hospital room. One shot has Morgan F wearing his glasses, the next
they're off, and then they're back on again. The editor and director really did a shoddy job on this film IMO.

I actually really liked this film. I think having the song play over the spoiler moment soulstyler mentions would have been too much for such a quiet and
beautiful moment. Also - he shreds the list, but Freeman picked it up and put it back together (hence, it being shown during the crossing off the laugh until
you cry moment later) - so you can't use that as a shoddy moment. I did notice the glasses/ no glasses, but nothing other than that. My theater had plenty
of people sticking around to absorb.
The placement of John's song was perfect - it summed up the film, really, and to put just a few seconds of it somewhere else in the film would have been a disservice to the song. I just couldn't agree less with you. I really enjoyed this movie.

There shouldn't be movie reviews in here. I still want to see the movie and I don't want to have the whole plot line explained to me. I thank
soulstyler for the warning and tisk tisk cattivella for no warning.
Anyway, this thread should be about the song itself not the movie or placement in the movie. Just my opinion. -Adam |

Considering the song was written specifically for the movie, I think talking about its placement in the film is perfectly acceptable.

Sorry AdamG if I inadvertently spoiled the move for you through the reply to my post. It was not my intention to spoil it for anyone --- I myself hate to have
movies and plot lines spoiled for me. I just feel very strongly FOR this song and very strongly AGAINST its placement in the film. The
film/director/editor/studio execs/powers that be did serious injustice to a good song and a great talented artist. I hope JM feels the same way and he'll
try to have more creative control and, em, say, over how his songs are used in movies -- if that ever happens again.

Vote for Say on the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown | ||

I've been voting for the video for "Say" over the last few weeks, but it still hasn't made the VH1 Top 20 countdown.
Go to VH1 and vote if you get a chance. I'd love to see the video get more
attention!
