My old boss had a Volvo. Not only do they rule the way Joey says they do, but someone was harassing her and tried to break her car windows with a big giant
rock. The rock didn't even make a dent.

i have a 2001 nissan sentra that gets great gas mileage and has never needed repairs. it was my first brand new car and i will drive it until the wheels fall
off. i've put about 85,000 miles on it so far and i haven't had to do anything but change the oil and keep up on regularly scheduled maintenance :-)

i have a 2007 Nissan Sentra and i am in love with it; just got it in Feb. My dad and step-mom have the Nissan Rogue (2008) and Altima (2006) and they love
them. Apparently we're a Nissan family. we haven't had any issues with our cars yet. I got my 2007 (granted no bells or whistles b/c i'm broke and
couldn't afford all of that) for about 13,500 (with tax and registration included).

but if one was REALLY all that concerned about being kind to the environment, they'd buy used. Or even buy a car that doesn't use as much energy or raw materials to build. People never think about what it takes before the car rolls out of the factory. Now THERE'S some bigger picture thinking. I snicker when I see the new Discovery "Green Home" channel talk about ripping out perfectly good appliances, so you can put in EnergyStar ones to "save the environment". As if not using an older, functioning appliance has no effect, either from creating garbage or using raw materials. I do understand that "buying salvation" is easier than actually making a difference, but the irony of that is just astounding. If I didn't just buy a truck, I'd actually look into getting a new Jetta Diesel that's coming out. With the amount of highway driving I do, that would kill getting 60 mpg vs. the 20mpg in my truck. But, the gas savings doesn't offset the monthly payment, and two cars is definitely not the same (or cheaper) to insure, so there you go. |

will the battery eventually die in a hybrid? it can't be recharged forever, right? I will be driving the my Corolla until she don't drive no mo'.
having no carpayments since I paid it off in november has been a most welcome change in my monthly finances.

word randy. i'm all for the environment, but i swear some people just "go green" to be cool, which defeats the purpose most of the time
even @ the 50 MPG they're claiming the new jetta to get, why would you buy something that requires diesel?? it's a good $1 more/gallon and rising! and what the heck were you thinking buying a truck?? you crazy |

My suburban has FlexFuel which means it runs on less pistons when possible. I can tell a difference in gas mileage from my old one. I have to admit that I
won't change the type of car I need, or choose, to drive based on gas mileage alone.
ps. All do my friends that drive diesel HATE it. |

oh man, i always thought flexfuel meant that it could run on different kinds of fuels

even @ the 50 MPG they're claiming the new jetta to get, why would you buy something that requires diesel?? it's a good $1 more/gallon and rising! Not here. It's like $0.25 a gallon more (10% more than 87 regular), but compared to my truck I'd get 2.5x the mileage. More $$$ per gallon, but overall less cost per mile. Diesel would have to go to like $10 a gallon to make up the difference. If I could get one for free, I'd be all over the Jetta! It might actually still be worth it now that I think about it....depends on if I really believe gas/diesel will stay at $4, and how much the monthly
payment/insurance is. If it's less than $250/mo, maybe it would work. If I believe prices truly will increase forever, should lock in my Jetta now before
the price goes up! and what the heck were you thinking buying a truck?? you crazy I've got a life outside of abusive lending! The actual reason is that I use my truck enough for "truck" purposes where I've likely made money through increased home equity. And my gf
and I have started getting into mountain biking, so the bed is a pretty good covenience. While I could rent a pickup I suppose, I can't imagine
what they consider damage at U-Haul or similar places. It seems like anything you'd really need a truck for, you'd be likely to get charged for damage
on!

oooooh randy has a woman! hott
yeah, trucks are convenient. my boyfriend has one, except i think we use it to help other people move more than we use it for ourselves. gas prices here are fucked. i swear they're higher than anywhere. diesel is $4.50 here i want a Biodiesel Benz (an 80's mercedes converted to run on "french fry oil") you can get 100 MPG using a mixture of a small amount of diesel and the rest vegetable oil from any McDonald's. i know someone who did it, it's crazy. but he says he smells like a french fry afterward. but who cares! and they just give the oil away to him for free because normally they'd have to pay someone to take it. |

Before this turns into a high school "who's-dating-who" fest, let's get back to the subject at hand.
I paid $672 today for all the replacements. That was with my corporate 10% off. Not bad for all the work they did, actually. And I just reminded myself that my Civic gets excellent gas mileage, which beats out the fuel efficiency of any of the cars I was considering. Even the new Civic. Well, not the Civic hybrid of course. And Brian, I still don't know how you can assume a new car payment would only be $250. That'd take you forever to pay off, unless you put a ton of money down before financing. ~Tara |

Brett, I stand corrected, much to your sarcastic delight. The piston thing is on it's own. FLexfuel is gas or E85. It's a new vehicle and not my
primary ride so I made an error.

libby, i wasn't being sarcastic, i was being confused. i figured since it was your car and i never really investigated that you were correct and i had
assumed wrong. that's all.
eta: i reread what i wrote and i didn't see sarcasm at all. sorry it came across that way |

I pay only $250 a month on a new Civic 5 year loan. I did put $2,000 down but that's not that much of a down payment. But I think they are more expensive
now than they were in 2005?
