side note -- john was wearing a sleeveless Purple Rain shirt last night. just thought everyone should be aware of that haha
When I was a kid, when I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a dinosaur. I wanted to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex more than anything in the world! I made my arms short, and I roamed the backyard, and I chased the neighborhood cats, and I growled and I roared and everybody knew me and was afraid of me. But then one day my dad said "Bobby, you're 17. It's time to throw childish things aside." And I said, "Okay, Pop." But he really didn't say that, he said "Quit being a fucking dinosaur and get a job." |

Meant to drive straight through and get home at 4am but ended up stopping at a rest stop to, you know, rest, and slept from 2-9!! This was my first time going
to an artists' shows back to back (Jones Beach and Camden) and it was interesting to notice different things the second night around.
Out of the Jones Beach show and the Camden show, Jones Beach was the winner. There was no competing with CIR, Man on the Side, and a Mayer brothers guitar duel, but last night's encore came pretty damn close. As jester said, JM was just finishing up Bold As Love when he hit a bum note and went into the wrong key for a few seconds, so he then moved into Wind Cries Mary (at which point I almost died). He ended by saying, "That's what you do when you mess up the first one." As he was playing the teasers, switching the capo around, he said, "There's just not enough time but I must be really pissing some people off right now (and grinning)" before playing a little bit of Slow Dancing and finishing wiht Say. Crossroads was better last night than at Jones Beach, much more rocking and a better solo. Stitched Up was a less-rockin' version (the overall feel of the song) but JM's five minute tapping solo was ridiculous. I think he plays that song on a PRS? Sick stuff. When introducing WOTWTC (about the fifth song in the setlist, rather than the last song in the encore, ahemm, wantagh), he had a long story about the song being his cadet and him saluting it and telling it to go up above all of the top 40 radio stations knowing that it will become overplayed but some people would still love it when all was said and done. Not as good as the "there's only one fucking tri-state area" but still kind of funny. An interesting point is that there were way more males at this concert than Jones Beach, it wasn't 60/40 like some of the European shows were described but the men showed up for Rolling Stone's Guitar God. The other thing that I found pretty funny was the onscreen text messaging at the venue, someone proposed (which probably should never ever be done, do it right and pay to have the whole screen for a few seconds i.e. any major sporting event) and another message said "Ask John where Dela is?" Got a kick out of that but no one did end up asking him. OH - and I think he might have been spouting some new lyrics (not an outro/intro/anything I've heard....I think) before one of the songs, I seem to remember it being Gravity. I was trying to listen and save lyrics in my cellphone notes but I couldn't type fast enough. Does anyone else remember this? He went on for about a minute and a half before launching into whatever song he was going to play. Awesome summer tour, maybe I'll catch some lawn seats in Hartford but I am SO incredibly satisfied with the last 48 hours of this summer, I can't imagine how he will ever top these shows. Time to work! |

ok, first second and 3rd rows, mostly the center seats anyone get caught in the line of fire of all the drunk, overly talkative moms? just me? and the girl
doing the strip tease on the gate?

Cait-Camden is not typical of NJ, thank God. Exact reason why I am going to PNC this year. My NJ is like your CT & Mass!!!! Agreed. Camden always has its
share of drunk a-holes. 2 years ago, my husband went ballistic on one woman who kept imitating the sound of JM's guitar in a screech and kept drunk
laughing-shreek-laugh, shreek-laugh, thought he would throttle her!!!!!

some lady in the 1st or second row, which ever she felt like jumping over( in her dress) kept trying to make out with the gate guard.

i would have taken pictures like usual for yall but i was in the 20th row and i conveniently forgot my camera battery at home. oh well, it's been years
(literally) since i've just watched and listened to the whole show without distraction
