Need Help with a Strat Build, Willing to pay$$$!!! |
Lead | |
|
Hey guys, I just bought a relic strat off ebay. I need help finding a few things. First, does anyone know where I can find the pearl/gold tuners? 2nd, if
anyone knows where to find a genuine Fender reliced neck with the Custom Shop logo on the back, I would also appreciate that. I know, I just missed one that
was sold here. Also, I don't know what I need as far as wiring goes, maybe some of you builders could lead me in the right direction. thanks. Read 2nd post
below!!

Thank Champy. Now for stupid question #2. Large or small tuner knobs. Also, there is a slight change in plan. As you can see from the photo, the paint looks
very flat, I guess I need to have it finished in Nitro?? Also, the lower part of the body doesn't have any nicks or scratches. Are any of you relicers
willing to nick it up a bit and finish it in nitro?? I'll mail it out to you and pay one of you guys. Here's the pic, let me know what can be done with
it. thanks

steevo124 wrote:ohh boy, nitroing that. shiet as long as you don't finish the worn part of the guitar (like some other guy on here did), then i think you'll do alright haha. Looks like you also need a gold bridge and an output jack. The bridge will include saddles. You'll also need the trem springs and the claw. A Ground wire to the claw would be ideal The output jack you may find anywhere (with ground/lead wire). Neckplate Strap Buttons (with some felt to cushion between the strapbutton and the body) as far as tuner size: Smaller is easier to tune quickly (and not get in the way of other tuners) as you have more room for your fingers to turn them. larger is better for precision tuning. Kind of makes me want to get clapton's Butterbean tuners (whatever they're called)

Thanks for the advice everyone. Does anyone know where I can get a good neck, preferably with the Fender decal already on it, and if possible the Custom Shop
logo also??? Also, doesn't the paint look weird on that body???

http://www.usacustomguitars.com/ supposedly makes the best necks of all the major aftermarket companies. You
maybe want to check with them concerning if it'll fit your neck pocket. The Fender decals could be homemade. I don't know how, but I've seen it
done, and I think its easy.
EDIT: http://www.thedecalshop.co.uk/fenderstrat.html I would personally think twice before applying such decals to a "fake" Fender... Atleast, I'd keep the Custom Shop off it.

Awesome, I had no idea about these sites. Anyway, I e-mailed the seller of the body and asked if the guitar was finished in nitro etc. and here is her
response. "it is not finish in anything but to get the very reliced look I would suggest not doing it because the wood doesn't get that
look"............ What the hell does all that mean?????

UMMMM, YEA!!! WTF??? I just e-mailed the seller. She hasn't gotten back to me since EARLY today. Why do I get the feeling I got screwed?? Oh, and again,
doesn't anyone else seem like the paint just doesn't look right?

It looks like either A: the body was not clearcoated and not polished, or B: the body was clear coated poorly and still not polished. To make that even close
to looking right, youd have to mask off the bare wood portions, shoot nitro clear over the painted sections, then buff/polish it to a like-new finish. From
there you could dull the finish with rubbing compounds and add various dents, nicks, and scratches. Basically almost enough work to warrant a total re-finish.
Based on your posts and your relatively novice guitar finishing knowledge (no insult intended) I think youd find that trying to make that particular body look
the way I THINK you want it to, will take a lot more time and effort than its probably worth. You'd be better off buying a complete, or almost complete
custom JM relic build from somebody who does them on the side like the ones we've seen here previously.

Also note that a Fender "STARcaster" body may or may not have the exact same dimensions as your typical American Standard or American Vintage body. I
really don't know. Taking a second look, i see a lot of headaches coming out of that body.

ya, the paint on the front looks like it still has the "orange peel" texture on it...meaning their is clear but was not buffed out, weird man....i
hope this all works out

i think you should invest your money into something better than a knockoff guitar that is inspired by what JM has.

Steve,
Check out this website for a good set of parts. Great guys to deal with. http://www.callahamguitars.com/ Why do you sand the guitar down, shot it with nitro, give it a really heavy sanding, polish it out. Nitro wears quicker than poly and you can have a Steveo relic in two years of heavy playing? |
