Andrea, that t-shirt is fantastic! And nice comeback on my facebook status, btw. Would it be so wrong for me to just *oops!* de-friend some FB friends who
continue to bash Obama and breed negativity on my page? I'd like to at least put them on notice?

Funny anecdotal info... Historically - retail makes a drastic turn for the DIRE before an election when people are unsure of where things are heading..
(Regardless of the health of the economy, this happens before every national election). The month before is PARTICULARLY bad. In the last two days my business
has seen a real lift - targets are being reached - people are shopping for pleasure (I'm in the music/movie retail industry) and feeling inspired - I know,
coz my managers are telling me! "Our customers have been in such a good mood, and so many have commented on how happy they are about the American
election results".
In NZ we've had the double whammy of the US election AND our own election happening tomorrow. What's interesting to me, is that we expected it to stay flat/declining until OUR results were in. Obama's election has improved the overall mood and outlook of our country already .
*This is not an ad for rampant consumerism, more a comment on the comfort people take from having their world in safe hands! You can take all the tricks up my sleeve.... |

hahaha dena...i love how that one person directed her comment at me but was trying to be subtle. whatever, i just ignore the mad bitter people who are annoyed
they lost the election. my attitude is (and i hope i'm right) that obama will do for our country similar things people like jfk and and roosevelt have
done. not only are they smart and know what we need, but they're charismatic and have the ability to get everyone involved and excited about life as a
whole. Styla- i already agree with you about the whole morale thing. aside from seeing the excitement of the country on the news at rallies and in other
countries, but i see it at work and with my family. my hope is that confidence and overall positiveness is restored in everyone (or the majority of everyone)
this country. i'm hoping what happens is that the people who were for mccain/nader/barr, etc and the people who are entirely against obama (not saying
everyone who voted for others besides obama or didn't vote at all, are against him) will come around SOON after they see how obama can change our country.
i know it won't happen overnight, and i know one man can't fix everything, but he has the ability to fuel and inspire other people to do good and make
change happen and that is what we need. if everyone bands together, it'll happen. we just needed someone who could ignite the fire, you know?

by the way, i'm not surprised that prop 8 passed. just because people voted for obama doesn't mean they condone or are fans or are even tolerant of gay
marriage. religion is still huge in this country, especially with the high morman and latino population in california. people often think that an obama victory
is an instant win for all civil rights, but it's not. this is just the beginning, and i think we're going to make very quick and positive strides in
the right direction, but it's going to take TIME. not only that, but both obama and mccain stated during one of the debates that they do not support gay
marriage (though i highly doubt obama would vote to ban it if he had the choice to do so)

Maybe the Yes on Prop. 8 ads were so saturating that some people didn't even pay attention to what it was and just voted yes. Or they thought voting yes
was for gay marriage. IDK. I was just really surprised by that. I had heard it would be close, but I just didn't think it'd really pass.
I started a heated discussion with something I put on Facebook, too. I haven't seen anymore ignorant comments or statuses popping up on FB, so it looks like everything is calming down.

"Calling her shopping spree "more extensive than previously reported," one aide told Newsweek it was like ""Wasilla hillbillies
looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast.""
easily the best part of that entire article. |

people definitely knew what they were voting for with prop 8. this is the second time the state has voted this way. there were even multiple interviews with
gay people that voted against prop 8. and since the public already voted this way once and it was made null and void by an unconstitutional surpreme court
ruling, people were also angry about that.

has anyone gone back to the first page of this thread?? it's from 2003! that is nuts, i had no idea. it starts off with mama talking about bush/cheney GOP
'04 bumper sticker ideas. just to think that back then if you told us obama would become president, we wouldn't believe it!!

Andrea, I re-read through the first bunch of pages of this thread last spring - amazing, huh? And we actually lost a bunch of pages during one of the
crashes. At one point I wanted to cull out all the pro-Bush posts and re-post the list with authors and ask if they still felt the same. After a couple
minutes it felt like a waste of time though.

CheckUrPulse wrote:i haven't posted much in this one but i've read it sporadically since it started. during the '04 election, i was an ohio resident and voted there after waiting for 2 1/2 hours. i lent my tv to election law central at my law school for the night, so i had to rely on my friends to IM me about the election results. my friend asked me where cuyahoga county was, and then told me that bush had won. i remember after cursing a ridiculous amount of times, i said, "whatever. obama '08!" i figured it was an impossibility, but i was so inspired by his speech at the DNC in '04 -- in stark contrast to everything else -- that i had to throw it out there. when we were discussing the election a few months ago, my friend brought up my '04 comment; i'm so glad that what i thought of as an impossibility became a reality. ~jocelyn

i know, me too! back in '04 my grandma saw him speak and said "that man's going to be the next president" it's nuts. i was like "who
is this guy? no way, no one's ever heard of him and he's way too young!" haha now look at him!

I just looked back and we lost the 04 election during the crash. Posts missing from April 04 to June 05. That had all the oohing and aaahing about his
speech. Too bad.

Highly Recommended Reading:
The November 17 issue of Newsweek with Obama's photo on the front, Secrets of the 2008 Campaign. Newsweek had embedded reporters in all the campaigns, and with Obama since before he entered the race. They were pledged not to report anything until after the election, and the magazine built a wall around them so there were no leaks. I'm sure this issue will ultimately be a book, but right now it was like reading a thriller - even though I'm sick of the election and already know the "ending." Really interesting inside information about this historic election. Brilliant concept by Newsweek which has locked in our continued subscription. Even Elkins will like it as it reports some Obama voting records he can bash on.

Ahhh, I'm weepy after reading this Time article, An E-mail from Obama's Sister. One could only hope to be celebrated with a fraction
of such love and admiration as Obama's Toot has been by her family.
