Ray is playing tonight in Atlanta at The Tabernacle. I would like to go, but it appears to be sold out. I don't have any of his CDs, but I did recognize
a couple of his songs on the blog. He has a great sound! I'll have to get to know his music better.

I will respectfully disagree and maintain that Ray Lamontagne is one of the more boring performers I've seen. 'Course, Dennen takes the cake by FAR,
but I remember this show being a little bit of a snooze fest for me. I was disappointed as it was following the release of his single Trouble, which, even
though I think it's a complete ripoff, is a pretty great tune (because what in music isn't a ripoff, right?).

The one time I saw Ray (he was opening for Guster, so it wasn't a true Ray show to his credit), he stopped playing in the middle of a song, threw his
guitar aggressively on the stage and walked off. In the middle of the set. And never came back. Didn't really give me a good impression of him. I like his
music but because of that I probably wouldn't go out of my way to see him live again.

i know we've discussed this somewhere before on here but it's my understanding that Ray Lamontagne has a condition called Asperger Syndrome which is on the autism spectrum. It actually may not be that
disorder specifically, but something similar. I won't begin to attempt to explain the characteristics and symptoms of the disease as it is different with
each individual, but as someone who has a lot of experience working with children with this disease (and ones similar to Asperger's), I would say
definitely give him a second chance, Philly. The behaviors aren't always predictable and if Ray happened to be having a bad day, it's very likely his
performance was effected by it. I don't know that being a traveling musician is exactly the right lifestyle for someone who suffers from the disease, but
I'm not privvy to his medical history, etc to tell you he's on the right combination of medications, etc. The bottom line? Definitely see him again.
From what I've heard, he's really come out of his shell to be a much better performer.

I've seen Ray three times in the last three years and although I've heard of these outbursts, I've never seen them at the shows I've been to.
In fact the second show I attended he talked to the crowd towards the end of the show and told stories to this huge auditorium of folks. It was rare, but it
was the exact opposite of what I'd heard could be a nightmarish experience. I don't know if any mental disorder could be the cause, be it could be some
sort of warped stage fright or state frustration, but go to the show for the music and not to see if he's gonna pull a Kanye on everyone. He's really a
gift musician, blog or no blog.

Hi out there... thought I'd check in to let you all know what's up in my world... I'm working on the next CD, which I'm sure you will immediately hate until you eventually love. I'm basing out of LA because I'm working on a side project that is extremely cool. (I'll tell you about it soon.) A quick point about all things media/gossip/paparazzi related, as I know there's been some chatter amongst the fan boards lately... I am not darker, angrier or moodier these days. In fact, it's just the opposite. All that's happened is that I've given up on trying to find a way to use unwanted media as a form of entertainment. (It still was worth a try.) A walk to the car isn't the best time to try and analyze my mood or disposition, so you'll probably always get a bad read from it. Here's what I think some of you might be missing... I'm enjoying off time right now. That means I'm not really playing any shows as I concentrate on making the next album. Traditionally that would mean that you never see me at all, and my absence makes your hearts grow fonder, and then I appear again with my next collection of work and we all get grooving again. Things have changed a bit, and the decision to slide on and off your radar isn't so much my own anymore. But I'm too young to stomp my feet about it. All I can do is concentrate on keeping my heart and soul correct and then redecorate around it. So the life you see in pictures of me might not resemble the one you saw when you first picked up my music, but I'd be willing to bet your life looks different since then, too. All that matters is that the evolution of being a person stays correct, and I think when you hear the next album you won't regret a thing...because I sure haven't. And I get it... I don't apologize for a lick of it, but I get it... I just think sometimes in the middle of all the gossip madness you just need to hear my voice to let you know that I'm still here. So here I am. Well, not "me" me. I'm dictating this to my assistant Rolando while I enjoy an invigorating Watsu massage. And maybe from now on I'll give you some more updates so that you don't feel as if I've disappeared and been replaced with a robotic clone, like in that movie The Last Starfighter, though if I had been, I'd want you to know that I'm very happy where I am defending the great planet of Rylos, long may she prosper. Sorry. Sorry. Where was I? I think that covers it, just a quick check-in... Hope you're all well and as excited about the future as I am. I'm looking forward to the show on December 6. It's nice to know he's really not all broody and dark, but damn, does he put on a good show of it... and as for the new CD? Give it to me and then I'll decide whether I hate it or not. (Somehow, seriously? I doubt it.)

Awesome that he checked in with us, that was cool. And he's so right about not judging him by ridiculous pics of him walking to/from his car or in/out of buildings. Sheesh. But I guess a smile instead of a scowl would be nice to see, even if he's not posing per se...He's out there, we see him, smiles are a good thing.
