So, I read that L83 wasn't taking new membership or membership renewals, but I hadn't been on the site for a few weeks. My membership expired, and it
wouldn't allow me to log on, but it did allow me to pay to renew my membership. Since I hadn't logged on for awhile, I thought maybe there had been a
change and Musictoday was going to continue to run the fanclub and accept new memberships. Once I paid my fees, it still would not allow me to log on. I
emailed customer service to tell them this (with a little p.s. to say, "Hello, I still haven't received my deck of cards!") and got an email back
stating the fanclub is in a transitional period and they were not taking memberships and my credit card would be credited. Why do they even freaking allow you
to make a payment in the first place if they aren't taking memerships?! And there was NO response to the fact I haven't got my cards.

I'd like to know if, once L-83 starts taking memberships again, it would be worth my while to join? I've been to 4 shows, within the
first 4 rows at all of them, but didn't get my tickets through L-83. So, are the ticket prices reasonably lower than what they are to "non L-83
members"? All I would really want with the membership is the tickets prices. I'm not so much concerned about when I would get my playing cards, seeing
as I can barely play go fish. I'd just like to know whether or not I'd save any money on tickets for shows. Thanks in advance to any help anyone can
offer

Lauren,
How did you get your tickets on the first 4 rows? we're they through ticketmaster or ebay or a broker? L-83 sells tickets for the face price. So you won't get them any cheaper but I guess if you got yours for face and are in the first few rows, no point in you joining. You are doing pretty good. I think the membership is worth it because you get better tickets at least than I can pull anywhere else. debbie

Where do you normally get your tickets? Ticket prices aren't discounted for fan club members, but we get to buy them a week before they go on sale to the
public and they reserve a majority of the "best seats in the house" for us.

My dad owns the company that does the sound production for Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Charlotte, so for some shows he gets tickets
free, but for the bigger artists like John Mayer he can get the tickets at face basically as soon as the show is "booked". For another show, my
neighbor is the host of a big radio station in Charlotte, so he can usually get tickets to any show in North Carolina. And the other show
that I went to in Pittsburgh, the tickets were a birthday gift so i'm not sure how they got them, but I'm thinking they were off of ticketmaster.

well then stay with that. You seem to be doing fine... No need to pay for L-83
Oh and if they got first 4 rows off of Ticketmaster...They can pull my tickets next time because no one that I know gets anything through ticketmaster. unless you ant to sit in the nose bleeds.. ha ha debbie

I have always gotten in the first 10 rows usually in the first 5 and I think tickets were 65 last time? with shipping
which was face. They range between 50 and 69 or so depending on the amphitheatre. Like I said L-83 is always face. debbie

I was wondering about this too... if L-83 will even continue to exist after this whole "transition" period.
And I've never gotten a damned thing from them...deck of cards or membership pack or anything...but when I buy something they are sure happy to charge my credit card...so I get stuff when I pay for it... And yeah. If you have connections, the main benefit of L-83 (presales) is moot, unless you want to go to a show where you don't have the hookup. Tix for me including shipping and whatever for this tour (again, first ten rows via L83) averaged about $75 apiece.

What's the reason that they're no longer taking members? And does anyone know how long it will be until they open it up again for new membership?

Pam,
Thanks for the heads up...I got the same message when I tried to log on. And, JFTR...no frickin cards here either, if it makes you feel a tad better. I heard they were posted according to seniority (members longest got them firstest) but I have no concrete evidence of that. Maybe someone can deny/confirm? Someone keep us posted as to when we can actually renew...thanks! -Tracy |

Nope that is not true they were sent out by regions, not by senority. and then the draw of the short sticks.

They were sent out by region? Really? I just remember that Matt from Finland said he got his.
I don't understand how they could possibly mess the cards thing up though. I mean, I'm no math major or anything, but it seems to me that if you have X amount of members and you order X amount of cards, then you have enough for everyone. No? |

i thought they sent them out by member NUMBER. there's a number in your member info on l-83 and i think they went numerically. that would make the most
sense to me if they weren't going alphabetically. then again, this is l83 where if something makes sense, they do it the ass-backwards way instead.

So maybe it is seniority then. Logic would say that membership numbers aren't just random combinations but they probably count upwards. But, like Cait
said, that would make sense, and L83 doesn't like to make sense.

It can't be senority. I had to give up my membership and start a new one I have low senority and I got mine way before Cait did. And they didn't run
out because you can buy them in the l-83 store or even the store on jm.com..
And it can't be by the alphabet because then Cait would have gotten hers right after mine and she didn't ...way after. I think they did by regions..however because most of us on the west coast got them at the same time. debbie

well who the hell knows what's going on then. i remember reading they were doing it by member number on the l83 message board. not that anything they say
there is any more grounded in fact than what we say here????? i think it depends on who you talk to on the phone at MT and how chatty the person is.

Yeah I have to agree with Debbie about teh cards. I let my membership lapse in 2005 and then re-upped and I got my cards in Early November. I usually never
got membership perks, or if I did it would come at random ass times, so I wasn't expecting them.
I will say that the cards were pretty cute and a much better "perk" to the concert journal that I was really confused on what to do with:) I still say, send us a pic. It's cheap and it's cool and the musicians can use them. Make a cute one that is a member's only version with something clever on it...like in 2004 when they read "nice catch butterfingers" that was too funny.... As far as joining up, even if it was an option, I only really do it for the pre-sales. As long as you keep up to date here and have your own connections, you are golden. Local 83 used to be a great social outlet for John(he actually used to come on chat here and there), now I am not sure who is hanging over there...maybe the next gen of fans? Not sure. I'm in Maryland, MT is in VA, so the region thing doesn't make sense with me. Agreed, the only great thing about L83 is the presale. The website
hasn't really been updated in over a year at least. Whatever happened to the monthly contests? Blah. Please don't nix the presales--it's what keeps
me hanging on there!
