Nowhere is there mentioned Ben Folds - Way to Normal. Maybe I'm out of the loop but did it really suck? I thought it was way better than Songs for
Silverman and possibly competitive with Reinhold Messner (but not quite). Otherwise, great lists everyone, it makes me want to get back in to the music scene.

This thread fits perfect for my New Year's Resolution to discover new music/artists. Thanks!

irisheyes wrote: Irisheyes, good find on NPR, I probably missed it earlier because they have the Black Keys at 17.....still seems a little low to me but it looks like I'm in the minority. As for Bon Iver, I'm sure there are plenty of other people in your shoes. There's been many times in the past where I just can't get into an album that everyone else loves. This year it seems like TV On The Radio's album falls in that place for me, I've listened to it several times but it does nothing for me. That's what makes the world go round though, it would be pretty boring if we all had the same exact lists and interests. |

They've never done anything for me either, I don't see what the draw is. But like you said, everyone's got different tastes! As for Bon Iver, that album gave me goosebumps the first time I listened to it. Not sure why, other than I think it's hauntingly beautiful. I want to see him live SO BAD |

this was the pull quote they had on NPR's list page - made me laugh. I guess it's from a commenter on their message boards:
TV on The Radio... TV on The Radio... please, give me a break with this tired and overrated "band". They sound like early Genesis or Modern Peter Gabriel (I don't know which is worse) meshed with the best of what Big Audio Dynamite has to offer... this band sucks... a lot

Hey Richard -
We have really similar tastes in music, so it was weird to me that you didn't put Adele on there. Any reason? Esp. since you seem to like music in that vein like Morrison, Duffy, Lidell, etc. Stacey |

Thanks for all the comments! I wanted to respond to a few in particular...
CheckUrPulse wrote: I obviously like some of the stuff on your list. There are a couple things I'm unfamiliar with, but I'm going to check out. ciamar wrote: Gnarls is a good call actually. I like that record (though it took a while to grow on me). It kind of got lost in the shuffle I guess. I like the Coldplay record too. It's leaps and bounds better than "X&Y" was for me, but there were still a few too many songs that just don't resonate with me. The good songs are excellent though. The Ray record I kind of feel similarly about. It's good, but just not top 25 material for me. JessRose24 wrote: Jess, I think GaGa has a legitimate shot at being around for a while (which is difficult with the genre of music she makes). She's already written songs for Britney and The New Kids. She's got all of the necessary elements to stick. A lot of people LOVE "Tha Carter III." I get it...I see why people like it, but to me it's more entertainment. Hot Chip is a good call too! I would've liked to have checked that out, but didn't get the chance outside of a couple songs. Chimpat wrote: The Black Keys is a really good call Pat. I didn't really get to spend as much time with it as I would've liked, but it's come highly recommended to me from some friends of mine. A good friend of mine ranked the record in their top 5 for the year, which intrigues me. I think TVOR...for me, it's really all about what they're doing. I really don't think there is any band out there right now with their sound. They keep reinventing their sound without being weird for the sake of being weird. I think their stuff actually is pretty easy on the ears, but I get what you're saying. I think that choice for me this year may be SantoGold. I don't think it's bad by any means, but it just doesn't do much for me. OnlyWapnerCanJudgeMe wrote: Stacey, I think there are some really good songs on the Adele cd. Some are flat out great. But start to finish, I find there to be a few too many songs that don't do much for me. |

not sure if anyone's a Jamie Cullum fan, but he posted this list and described it as "stopped me from doing what I was doing":
