the news reporters are overreacting just a bit to what happens to Bush now. the CNN.com lady said he had taken his last steps in the oval office and CBS just
said he won't be served M&M's anymore. I get what they're trying to say, they just need to clarify a little

I would just like to point out that our new President gave a shout out to non-believers! woooot!

she was on npr a few weeks ago reading another of her poems. i tuned in midway through the reading, and at first i thought it was some random reading the poem
because of the terrible delivery. go figure, turned out to be the poet. i started thinking about the written word vs the spoken word; i'm wondering if
her poems might come across much better read silently.

I thought the slip-up with the Justice as just nervousness. Besides, Barack was one of the senators that voted against his confirmation. Aretha, well at least
she didn't have on some spaghetti stap or strapless outfit because she will go there and it's not pretty. Thank God this wasn't in the spring.
Cheney in a wheelchair is so ironic, a metaphor of the crippled administration as far as I'm concerned. The poem was good, but the delivery was weak. Some
poets don't do their own stuff very well. I personally liked the last part of the Benediction. I haven't heard that bit in a long time.
I like this photo.

actually, the hesitation happened because Justice Roberts (who, as you pointed out, Barack voted against) put the word "faithfully" at the end of that bit of the oath instead of at the beginning where it normally is. I would wager to bet that Obama memorized the oath beforehand and was thrown off by the transposition of that word which caused him to stop and have him repeat it again. it sounds like Roberts took the blame for the mix up immediately afterward.

oh what a day! I've been glued to the TV since 7 am. Chose to watch it alone in the house, turning down many invites to viewing parties here. Shared some
phone calls with Dr. Science who was watching at work, and yerlilsistah who saw it at school. I wept like a baby many times. The speech was perfection. the
message is crystal clear. I can almost see President Obama mentally at work already, even during the festivities. Both clergymen did fine prayers.
So many little moments within the sea of swelling heart: Aretha's hat almost made up for her faltering voice. The Obama girls were adorable - I don't think Sasha is able to not skip as she walks, what joy. I love that the President and Mrs Obama and Biden are staying so long at the parade when everyone else in that viewing box bailed. The Secret Service are amazing. Chris Matthews should break into a few verses of Jizz in My Pants. As Bush has been doing his farewell talks, I'm feeling so much sadness for him. As much as I couldn't stand to listen to him, it was clear he was always too unintelligent to be anything but the puppet he was. Perhaps history will be kind to him in the future, but I cannot see that now. As long as he lives in Texas, he'll have some around him who thought he was a good president. I am in awe of the Obama stamina - 10 inaugural balls after the parade! I hope Michells' ballgown is more to my liking that her suit. There must be some American designers who get her colors better. Great day.

but the real question is, will the Fug Girls weigh in and if so, what will
be their verdict??
I am seriously wondering how President and First Lady Obama (I like saying that) did not break their faces or have their arms fall off after hours and hours of waving and smiling? Even the girls hung in there for way longer than I would have at their ages. I would have been all "can we go to McDonald's NOW? you promised you'd take me if I behaved!" bless their little hearts. and the skipping? instant heartmelt. and tears. I think Kleenex should have been the sponsor of today's events.

My daughter is the same age as their youngest (they may even have the same exact birthdate, at most off a day or two) and I can't even fathom her behaving
that well for that long without at least a Nintendo DS nearby and preferably a portable DVD player with several movies. The girls did a great job!!

well I voted for him too (even though my vote didn't count) because he promised change. And now he's got his chance. I'm not ready to bestow any
accolades on him yet. Everyone seems to be gushing over today, but he hasn't done anything yet. While we all hope he delivers, if the worst happens and
he's as bad as GW, then what was today all about? I just think it's premature.

Brett, I think expecting miracles from him is a bit nuts in the current situation(s.) But like an interesting article in The New Yorker mentioned, I think we
can expect competence from him. And that will be a vast improvement over W.
Listening to last night's Daily Show and Asif Mandiv looking forward to Obama's speech and him "making sweet, sweet love to the English language." I got tired today of the NBC/MSNBC media bitching about the cold. Dood, even an old woman like me can last 8 hours on a Chicago sidewalk in 30 degrees with wind chill. (Shout out to Nov 02 Chicago peeps!)

I just think that this particular Inauguration Day is so epic on a number of levels that this is a natural reaction. I don't remember a time (in my
lifetime, I mean) when we had a candidate this likable, this intelligent, this thoughtful, this interesting, this passionate, this remarkable. right there in
front of us, ready to step up. Clinton doesn't come close in my book. we're all understandably emotional today. most of us are well aware that the
honeymoon ends tonight. I'm not expecting miracles, but so many things about him just make me believe that he's going to be good for this country. I
have to believe that. what else is there to do?
btw, this is a great story from 20 years ago that I ran across today that really warms my heart.

Holly, I fully expect something near miracles, but it's all the praising (I call it gushing) that's being heaped upon him when he's only had 12 or
so hours on the job. I'll praise him when there's something to praise. And i'm done raining on everyone's parade. enjoy.

oooOOoooo, Ken Burns just gave Obama an "11" ("10" being the Gettysburg Address and MLK's Dream speech) on his inaugural address.
Called this time the "Third Act" in American history.
Seriously, google him on Olbermann tonight....great interview. Brett, you're not raining. In my mind he's already perforned a miracle campaign win, but there's a long road ahead. And WOW to Michelle's dress!
