hey guys i was wondering if yall have any rhythm exercises that are good to do. its my limiting "thing" right now. i mean everyday im doing chord
exercises with a metronome, and i practice all my scales with a metronome and i'm usually dead on. however, i'm in this rock ensamble at school and
i'm just not tight enough with the rhythm, and i need to be cleaner, not sure if its because i never play that rock style music, (mostly i'm a blues
player) and its just not my style, or if its having the whole band behind me being a semi recent thing. Anyways any advice or drills would be awsome.

Play a bunch of DMB? Helped me pretty seriously in the rhythm department...

yeah dave matthews playing is really tight. Also learning funk parts does quite well for building your rhythm chops.
As far as rock, what kind of rock stuff are you doing? If you are unsure what to play I'd recommend studying the records of the artists in that vibe and trying to learn what sorts of things they do in their rhythm playing. My fave rock rhythm guitarist would have to be eddie van halen, everyone goes on about his soloing but his rhythm playing is incredibly tight and has alot of groove. |

But about rhythm guitar, you gotta play. Playing more, and specially with a band, will make you better at that pretty fast.

Playing DMB for my first 3 years of guitar is the reason I can play electric pretty well and I would bet a lot that John did the same type of thing. Once you
can handle an acoustic, and electric is just making some fine adjustments.
