No offense, but there was a sign taped outside the doors of the Spec Spec stating the no video taping policy, so claiming ignorance doesn't fly. You just
got lucky that security guard next to you was so nice. The one near us was a nazi!

Did you go on the cruise, sorry have not looked at the videos...because if you did there was a huge email sent out a couple of times where the policy was stated... it said any of the indoor venues were not supposed to be video taped.... I am stil trying to figure that out but it was their policy debbie there came a moment in the middle of the song when he suddenly felt
every heartbeat in the room & after that he never forgot he was part of something much bigger...Brian Andres

I don't necessarily think the policy makes sense either, but it was stated clearly in many places. I think we should all try and respect it as much as we
can so they don't restrict anything more in the future. Nuff said....
Carry on now!

laila, each artist has their own taping policy. someone like david could have a more open policy because he's not quite as well known. i would think
he'd want his name out there any way he could get it out there. mayer's policy is to allow audio but no video and we can't change that, so around
here we try to stick to that for the most part. i think videos that are small snippets of shows aren't quite as much of an "infraction," if you
will, as a full-length video of songs. i've certainly flipped over to video at a mayer show or two to capture something amazing going on, but it's
rarely a full length cut. usually about 30 seconds. and if it is a full song, it never ends up on youtube or in the hands of a person i've never met in
real life who i know won't post it up somewhere themself.
to me, this is similar to the no trading of copyrighted material on the board. does it happen? of course. does it happen in the open? rarely. we can only self-police to a certain extent, similar to how l-83 members self-police when awesome seats end up on ebay for $1000 per seat. we can only do so much... to the OP, i don't want you to be discouraged from sharing what you got from your vacation! the fact that you came to the board and your first post was about sharing and not what kind of shoes the guy wore on the lido deck speaks volumes. do you have any photos you could share? |

yea, I have to stick up for Sue on this one....
Mostly because I know her and love her! Sue captured a lot of great moments on the cruise, but has kept most of the videos on private to share with those of us who were there and want to re-live those moments. I know she just wanted to share her good fortune with fans, so she really didn't mean to offend anyone. Anyways, issue is dead. Now let us all join hands and sing "Don't Stop Believin'". Cue the fog machine. |

Laila, there is something funny about video legally I think. If you haven't been dumped by now, it is probably okay. Trent Reznor gave an interview
recently where he said that the payment structures are different at venues if you allow video taping. That could explain the posted bans, and the difference
between enforcements from various artists. I have very eclectic musical tastes. Some musicians have rigorous take-down rules that are instantly enforced, while
others will not only leave them up, they seem to appreciate the bootleg videos. I will leave it as a your-mileage-may-vary guess as to where John falls on that
spectrum.

Haha thanks Meg! For the record, I was on here for about a year around 2003 before I peaced out and did the college thing full time..and in the last couple years I've deposited myself on the L until it died. Debbie, we met at the DRH show in Atlanta this summer..briefly, but you still knock my socks off with your taping awesomeness! And please allow me to share my favorite non-musical moment from this whole shindig:
That's Pancho. And that picture cost me two dollars. But it was worth it!

Thanks for all the insights, everyone.
I'll try to be more mindful
in the future.
And, Sue, love Pancho! Just ran across your pics on FB, you got some great photos! I spied Drew in a couple too! lol Speaking of, where the heck is that boy?? He hasn't been on since the cruise! Must be just exhausted and speechless! haha

Thanks! Yeah, Drew is my semi neighbor (well, same state at least..) He grew up with one of my best friends and we looped around and met via JM years later
lol. He was working, the last I heard from him.
Here are a few pics from Guster's Lido show...I think Andy was responsible for this haha. I missed getting a pic of the first one, but it said something like "We can't wait to get back home and drive our SUV's"
And here's Guster's encore..my favorite thing about them is that they don't take themselves too seriously. The last time I saw them, they did the Cheers theme song lol. Brian is my hero. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1drVg5ydm1Y And oh oh, did anyone else see this graffiti in Cabo?

i embed video by hitting add reply (not quick reply) and then there's a little icon along the toolbar above where you type that has a play button in it.
then i hit add from HTML and paste the embedding code from youtube in there.

Well...guess I'm an offender too...sorry everyone. Seems like a dumb policy tho___double standard... Laila...that has been the policy at shows forever...yes audio taping no video taping, cameras without detachable lenses.....it has been written on every ticket, every venue for the last I don't know how many tours. You actually sound surprised. Saying that, I have to think it has something to do with Mick management because this is the first rockboat/sixthman event where I have seen this policy about cameras with detachable lenses and video taping...as it's a cruise ship and not a concert venue... but that was their policy... and perhaps it's because John felt more comfortable with limited video taping..I mean one picture is worth a thousand words and if it had been an open door policy people would have just set up a video camera on a tripod..perhaps that was what they were afraid of. Or perhaps it was what is on TMZ right now...congrats to someone..made a bit of money on that vid didn't you... debbie there came a moment in the middle of the song when he suddenly felt
every heartbeat in the room & after that he never forgot he was part of something much bigger...Brian Andres

Serious thank you to Debbie for taping and sharing these shows. Didn't realize how badly I'd been in live Mayer withdrawal until these shows came
along. Listened to the two acoustic ones so far and they were great. Thanks so much for getting these out for those of us who couldn't make it to the boat.

Went back and read my Sixthman documents | ||
|
ok, I usually follow rules pretty well and I just thought it was the Spec Spec where there was no video because I did openly tape David's show and I've
posted it. I went back and looked at the documents from my survival kit and Sixthman only stated the Spec Spec. I didn't remember seeing any signs up in
the El Morocco either.
Remember Take Your Fans To Work Day? John invited us to bring video cameras to the tour last summer which is why I thought it was odd that no video was allowed on the cruise at the main show. I just like having the memories...I create DVDs and we watch them again. When he invited us to video, I posted both shows I attended on YouTube to share with anyone else. Just my addition and because I still think it was ok for DRH, here's the next couple of vids...but if anyone thinks they should be made private, let me know and I'll take them down. I'm the last one that needs to be banned from the next cruise. I'm sure that I'm being blacklisted for being outspoken as it is!

Does "if i had a dime" sound a little too much like a mix of "come back to bed, St. Patrick's day, and not myself" to anyone else?
Hmmm, a little tooooo close to JM sound, if you ask me. If DRH really wants to make it big, he needs his own style.
