John Mayer Sig or 1962 reissue strat? |
Lead | |
|
My parents are wanting to get me a new guitar for a graduation present. The Jm Sig and 62 Strat are my dream guitars.Im leaning toward the JM charcoal frost
metallic. Bad part about it is, where i live i have no way of testing either one of these guitars, so i was wondering if any of you guys had any reviews on
either guitars. Soundclips, videos, anything would be helpfull. Thanks

You'll be pretty hard pressed to find a CFM Mayer Strat. You'll be spending a lot of extra money just to get that color. If there's no way for you
to play either model of guitar, just choose which one you want more.

If you choose the reissue, get the hot rod version. Comes with nitro finish and someother extras.

check out the american vintage thin skins on wildwood if you are in that price range...they are like the reissues...
the cypress JM's pop up on ebay and it doesn't seem like they escalate too much... also depends on the type of neck you are looking for in a guitar, and other features.
---So here goes: close your eyes, get out of your own way, and JAM.---

The Thin Skins are the exact same as the Vintage reissues, only in more model options like the 54, 59, and 57 strat models. these are made exclusively for
Dave's Guitars in Wisconsin and WWG. maybe a few others.

62... sigs are closed minded.

Pssht. Come on guys. Saying sigs are close minded is BEING close minded.

This will eventually turn to "sigs are stupid" "your face is stupid" |

I assume you want mayer tones if you are looking at the sig. so here is the mayer tone spiel:
If you want mayer tones get a 62. I am pretty sure he didn't even use his sig in the WTLI concert (or at least the songs that made the CD). I have a 62 because it kicks ass, and I feel like i have a lot of tonal options with it. basically i am saying that sigs are stupid... also that your face is. |

erich wrote: Wrong. used the CM on "Good Love is on the Way", he used his CFM on "Bigger than my Body" (which that part can be seen on youtube. it was not included on certain versions of the DVD) nice try though. I will state '62s are nice though. |

so he used it on the one that he lathers OD on, and the one that he uses an arpeggiator on. Who wants those tones?
The big tones come from 62ish pickups. |

ok man... as has been said countless times you are the only one that can make the decision as to which one's better by playing both guitars and some others
yourself. That being said both are gonna sound great so you can't go wrong with either one.

bottom line is that if you're gonna be spending that much on a guitar, you should absolutely play it before you buy it. both are going to sound great,
that's a given. i think the FEEL of the JM sig is outsatnding. the neck is almost unrivaled. i like that thick, c shape, but that's my personal
preference. you won't be disappointed with either, but definitely do everyhting you can to play them before you decide.

Agree with that big time. Nothing can substitute playing and hearing them first.
