As a compromise, could you hum the new stuff and record that?

That sucks, but kudos to having a moral compass debbie... I know I'm quite lucky for having tapes of shows I've never been to and I probably take that
for granted.
As a compromise, could you hum the new stuff and record that?

I am happy to hear that there won't be a tape available for the mags to get ahold of, but I would love to have a re-listen and pick out all the stuff John
said and give the new songs heavy rotation for a month or so.

Deb, as always I totally respect your decision and your integrity. I can certainly understand your dilemma and as we all respect John and his feelings,
I'm glad we are not feeding into our own wants and needs for a change. He has been so generous sharing this process with us, no need to mess that up.
Thanks for being there to share the moment.
Marie a footnote, I read today on CNN that Mrs. President spent time with Elmo on Sesame street....got a kick out of that thinking that JM had set the example. Also, I got Twittered by John and subsequently got really sick (not related, ha ha) but look for me and his reply, I'm called Twittlededum...a fucking fantastic amazing experience!!!!! I think it happened back on April 28th or so, totally floored me. |

Ok so my review...
So I am not good at reviews...I am hoping someone else is, but I will give it my best shot. He got there right about 12 midnight There were no apparent body guards, he had no Renee, no Ken, He crouched down and set up his own equipment, did his own tuning, making a few jokes. Honestly there wasn't a lot of banter. he seemed a bit nervous about the new songs. but like I said before very Eddies vibe, little disheveled, little harried, ...very humble. Nice to see, and like I said was So reminiscent of the early days I thought I would see dela come out. Some girl asked him if he wanted a real drink, he was drinking water and he said no I have a real car...don't know that just stuck with me. very cute, especially with all the breathalyzer stuff from the recent twitters. He played for about 39 minutes because it was like 12:45 when I got back in my car. Oh and he said...before he started playing that the songs are about him, but they're about everybody else, too, so don't read into it. the set list is on the first page. He started with I'm On Fire into 3X5. loose and really good, all acoustic.. His voice was amazing on "I'm On Fire. just had the one guitar and no don't ask me which one I have no idea, one with a hole in the middle... The new song next Friends Lovers or Nothing... I think I would like to hear it fleshed out a bit more maybe on electric??? It just seemed soft to me. kinda Maraz-y Vibe. Very pretty song. very pretty, I liked it .. will be interesting to see where this goes. lot of high notes in the chorus Then Heartbreak Warfare, sounded about the way it sounded before...however small room so a lot easier to hear and he seemed a bit more sure of it. Half of My Heart. I like this one, it also sounded like it did in the first tape, however I think he added some filler, just seemed more finished...God I am so sorry I am not a musician... Belief was Belief maybe a bit looser, they all just sounded a bit looser to me like he just played a bit more with the sounds. And then the last one. He asked for quiet...going to call it, why can't I get stoned... I am sure he has a better title. Some girl started cheering and he said "No Not Stop This Train." and everyone laughed. It was like the sucker for 09 as far as I was concerned...kinda a Springstein vibe to it...loose and funny and light.. who says I can't get stoned, turn off the lights and the telephone... me in my house alone, who says I can't get stoned went on to say different things I think, who said I can't get free etc... the chorus was cute something about I can't remember you looking any better but then again I don't remember you...really cute . anyway..I was blessed to have the best friends who got me out of bed and sent me careening down the fwy. and thank you Mr. Mayer, best Wednesday I had in a long time and all for the bargain price of five bucks...I paid for the guy behind me as he had no cash...he looked at me like he had won the lottery.."Man it was 5 bucks this is Mayer here, don't sweat it." debbie
there came a moment in the middle of the song when he suddenly felt
every heartbeat in the room & after that he never forgot he was part of something much bigger...Brian Andres

I'm just surprised you weren't on the VIP list, Debbie (VIPs get in free). John needs to learn some etiquette.

Must've been nerve wracking for him to break in the new songs in a sort-of-intimate setting.
Thanks for the review! 5 bucks to see John... awesome. I'm very curious if the last song will be tracked. Although I wouldn't mind it being an unreleased, this-is-between-the-fans-and-John type of song. -Agnes
2. My life is all about music and photographs. This would've been a nice signature... but John Mayer skipped Asia, again. |

Debbie, so glad you got to be a part of that! I can't imagine reading about this this morning and finding out that you somehow missed it! Good for you,
for keeping it so that he might do it again sometime.
Like everyone else, I so wish I was there! Libby

Debbie,
You really, really didn't tape it?? Well, I guess John's shout-out from the boat got to you. Good for you. Of course, I'm still dying to hear "Friends, Lovers or Nothing", but I can wait. I guess. |
