and why it's difficult.
I just got back into playing Mayer's In Your Atmosphere. I naturally was able to play it again, but the hardest part was singing over it. Just a bit of a timing thing for me that i haven't quite nailed yet.

which cover song (of anyone) do you think is most (or close to) difficult for you to play?

Yeah, In Your Atmosphere is a little tricky for me to sing over, too.
It's funny how these things work out. I remember thinking when I first heard Neon, "Wow...even if I do somehow learn how to play this, I'll never be able to sing over it". But when I finally did learn the technique the singing was easy peasy. Then I heard something that 'sounds' simple, such as In Your Atmosphere...and I can't sing over it for shit. Call me Steve |

Yeah in your atmosphere is hard. I still find Little Wing pretty hard to sing over.

A song by Richie Kotzen called Mother heads family reunion was definitely a tough one to learn. Incase you never heard of him here is the video for the song.

Anaponda wrote:Really? I thought it was an easy song to sing over, but certain syncopated rhythms give me fits on other songs. For instance, Salivas "Your Disease". It's an easy riff but I fuck up the vocals 8-10 times. As far as hardest stuff I'm working on, which will probably be a lifetime is the AGT Lenny/Man on the Side combo... and Buckethead's "Soothsayer"...

I only try to cover difficult songs. I don't get something out of playing an easy song....I always try to challenge my self

it's cool to cover difficult songs, but even the easier songs can slip up on you too.

^True. Take, for instance, Buddy Guy's "Feels Like Rain". That song is mainly 2 chords most of the time...I think 6 chords total. Very easy to
learn the chords, but to add filler and of course add lots of soul into the playing, it can be a LOT more than it seems. Kinda like "Gravity"--same
concept--very simple chords, but it's the rest that you put into it, you know...it's the the 'feel' in your playing.

It actually reminds me of something I heard one time that went something along these lines....
--Speed virtuosos and shredders can play as many notes as possible as fast as they can, but all David Gilmour needs is one single note to bend and it means more. Probably not exactly how it was worded, but you get the point--sometimes less is more! |

I agree, the easy songs are the best place to start learning how to make the most of everything. It took me a while to learn that. I used to only play the most
difficult songs I could think of. One day I realized that I had trouble making simpler things sound perfect so I went back to basics.
