one song for a friend's first week of shows and that translates into getting a Trio record? shouldn't we have been wetting our pants about this three
months ago when we found out he was recording the album with Pino and Steve? maybe?

i dont think were getting a trio record, he did this same thing on 06 with the trio for continuum...i think they record with him and then he goes out with
"with super friends" tours the album he makes....maybe someday well get a full on trio reunion/tour but, all though it would be awesome, i dont think
it will be for this record.

Just wishful thinking...the fact that they are recording together is Trio-enough for me! Was really just kidding bout that...
But I do so love the three of them together!

Just watched it again, loved it even more...this is a classic moment in talk show music history. John and the boyz put their everything into this, no showbiz
bs to be seen anywhere. Just 3 musicians on fire playiing a great song. Oh and the sweater kids were a nice touch.

imho, not a fan. I thought it was just a "all along the watchtower" copy. I like the song but the arrangement and sound were too similiar.

Mayer's facebook page posted a HD video from last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFkQ0k1xa8E

That's why Mayer's the man-- he won't allow his record company to delete tv performances off youtube. Does anyone remember the good ol days before
youtube when we had to save all this on our hd's? lol. Bryan was one step ahead of the curve.

Thanks, Brian. Much better quality.
debbie there came a moment in the middle of the song when he suddenly felt
every heartbeat in the room & after that he never forgot he was part of something much bigger...Brian Andres

Yeah, I mean, I guess I second that this is more like John echoing "All Along the Watchtower" than having his own "Watchtower"-level moment
himself, but it's still a pretty blazing, undeniable performance of a deservedly beloved old tune. It always seems like John feels that people don't
realize he can play as well as he can, and he's probably right. So this probably took some people by surprise. But I'm more impressed by his virtuosity
as an idea guy than his virtuosity on the guitar. Now I'm just hoping his new album will focus more on proving his chops that way-- see for example the
Japan video, or John's ability to come up with songs that are universal without losing that special feeling where it seems like they're just for you,
or the way "WOTWTC" started a political conversation without being preachy or divisive-- than in proving yet again that he's a badass blues
guitarist with tattoos and rockstar dating habits. I'd rather have John's FutureSexLoveSound (or, more likely
from the sound of things so far, his Blood on the Tracks or 808s and
Heartbreak) than a record that shows he went to Berklee.
What I'm TRYING to say is... I liked it. Quite a bit! But I'm not necessarily hoping for an album like it.

What I'm really hoping for is the JM3 putting out a new album right after Battle Studies is released. Fill it up with songs like California Dreamin'
and the like. He can hawk the two cds at the same time. That way more people can be exposed to the JM3 vibe.
Actually, what I'm REALLY hoping for is Conan hiring JM3 and they could play every damn night. |

When are people gonna realize that the Trio is an indulgence/side project and not actually making Columbia any money...

Copy and paste that to download the HD video. No idea if that will work, if not I'll up it to somewhere on the internets.

Mayer95 wrote: I don't think so, because Columbia would wan to promote one of their guaranteed #1 albums one fall, and then possibly next fall. Or I'd say at the earliest, summer. He still has to honor what the record company wants, but here's a question-- does anyone know how many albums he is signed on for? As in, this would be his fourth official studio album with Columbia, and I've heard of alot of bands signing for that number and then having the option to extend or break form the company. Truthfully, I could see him doing that, and signing a deal with Livenation or something. How many albums is he signed to produce in-studio? |

Sent a link to the YouTube clip to my dad and this was his response:
Wow....Mayer has left the building, he is officially the new greatest ever. Thanks! You can't beat that man. He's being semi-sarcastic, but almost everytime I talk to him he tells me about some clip he's found or something he noticed in WTLI that only someone who's played guitar for 40 years and grew up with Cream would notice. Getting that response makes the performance that much better. ETA: just realized I'm sitting here listening to Derek & the Domino's while my dad's sitting watching YouTube clips of John Mayer. You can't beat that shit, man, ever.
