Your biggest / most significant performance / gig? |
Lead | |

Hey guys, just curious. This past weekend I was asked to play and sing during the first dance at a wedding for some great friends of mine. I've been
playing some kind of music my whole life, and have probably played live gigs 20 times in the last few years, but I consider that to be my most important
musical performance ever...and man was I nervous.
What do you guys consider your biggest gig ever? I know there's lots of performing musicians on here. Ron

I played for my dog one time.
Probably, when they had this huge benefit at my high school, which would have been towards the end of my senior year, but I dropped out and went to college my senior year. So, nobody had seen or heard from me, and then I just pop in, and I had gotten much better at guitar, so it was kind of cool. Then, I went back to not speaking to them again....lol, I never fit in with high school friends. But it was a cool gig! |

i live about an hour from the university of illinois and our lead singer in our band goes there. were always getting to play at the campus bars there and we
even made an appearance on the big ten network. but my best performance would probably be when we opened up for a band that plays about 320 shows a year. their
called 7th heaven. we played at an end of the year frat party called double trouble. there were about 3300 people there and i would have to say that was my
best performance ever.
heres a vid of the party http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvZAOruqopQ

1. Talent Show I played at my last year of college. Everyone goes to them so it was actually a huge deal. It was a song I wrote, recorded a backing track for,
and had a big improv guitar solo in it. So with it being just me on stage and everything coming from me made it very significant. I performed well and everyone
loved it, so it was a huge step.
2. Performing the National Anthem on guitar at a college assembly. Very cool moment, was really calm and played it just like I wanted. 3. Guitar Solo competition I won at our college Homecoming. Totally improv, so anything that challenging is a big step. |

+1 on the SSB performance. one of your better youtube vids.
mine: 1. playing the SSB for a 4th of July festival. borrowed my buddy's Frankie replica to do it. did it in the style of Steve Vai (You can see a vid of him playing it back in like '89 or '90 in Dallas. major kick-ass-ness.) 2. Blues for a Cure, with my Teacher's Band, Hurricane Jerry and the Stormfront, this july. really hyped for this. 3. playing "The House is a'Rockin" in a play for our theater final. a ton of fun. got a 97 on it. |

senior recital, senior year of college. 60 minutes of music, 5 arias, 2 song cycles followed by lots of drinking.
other cool things: Carnegie Hall v. 1 and 2 Boston Symphony Hall v. 1-8 Chicago Symphony Hall v. 1 and 2 Master classes with various opera-types in high school and college I also sang at my cousin's wedding a couple years ago and when i finished, the priest didn't really know what to do so he gave me a standing ovation. was pretty funny. |

When I was a junior in high school, the All-State Jazz Band for Arkansas was directed by Wycliffe Gordon.
It was the most amazing musical experience of my life, I felt like I was floating the entire time because he was so incredible. He was even nice enough to show me and a couple of my buddies a couple tricks like circular breathing, and making Wynton Marsalis-esque laughing sounds. We played arrangements of some classics (Cotton tail....and others) that he arranged for the lincoln center jazz orchestra. If you haven't seen Wycliffe blow, you will poo your pants because he is so good. It's just crazy playing with someone who is regarded as one of the best musicians in the world...I don't know if I said this before, but when a kid was messing up on drums, he sat down and outplayed the drummer. When the upright bassist messed up, he took the bass and sounded incredible. He did the same on trumpet, piano, and guitar. Wynton Marsalis says he's professional level on like 13 instruments. |

I played this small venue called "my bedroom" a few times.. I distinctly remember this one performance of gravity where my shorts had ridden up to
the point where my meat and potatoes almost fell out.... At the time, I didn't think much of it, but I got an unbelievable web response from that
performance... Every guy wanted to be like me, and every girl wanted to be with me.. I even recall one guy registering on youtube with a screename so similar
to mine, you couldn't tell the difference, then trying VERY hard to replicate my performance, but not succeeding. I won't even begin to tell you about
how many women's panties were mailed to me
I have no rhyme or reason, but I've got rhythm!

You have no idea how much that video meant to me Steevo. It's still inspiring. You're the reason I did my own Gravity video. I freakin worship you man!
