Help me out (What amp do I want) |
Lead | |
|
So i've been looking around for a new amp. I tried the Blues Junior, I loved it...But I can't afford it...Because I also wanna buy a DL-4 loop
station....So anyone knows of a cheap, but good tube amp? I guess like 200 bucks cheaper than the blues junior...I just want a little tube amp that sounds
awesome..

The Blues Jr is sort of the entry level tube amp, at least if you want to start your journey on owning decent tube amps. I'd say its a good amp and has
potential to be awesome but there are combos out there that will destroy it both tone and feel even with the appropriate mods. Considering you want something
that sounds "awesome", I don't know. At this point you can get something thats $200 away from good
. I'd say at this point get the loop station because playing with a looper
will definitely get your chops and creativity up and save your amp money until you can afford something a little better, maybe a BJ.

Thanks for the reply...I kinda need an amp now, because if I buy the loop station I dont have anything to plug it in to, I'm amp-less at the moment..

As much as I get from my looper, I would suggest you wait on it and buy a blue junior. You will wish you did if you don't.

Have you tried the laney LC15R (around £150)
Great amp, all tube. Had one for 4 years before my BJ. |

I've found that if you're really serious about playing and what not, it's usually a better bet to pony up the cash for something that you KNOW you
want and love, instead of settling for something that will leave you somewhat disappointed and still wanting more.. Doing that, more often than not, simply
delay's buying the item that you should have in the first place.. Save some more cash and get the BJ. Make sure she swallows..

Ted Weber just release a fully functioning and complete ( with tubes) Deluxe 5E3 chassis for only $225. I have two on order.

Also, the VOX AC4TV that just came out might be something worth checking out. The 10" combo is 250, the head is 200 and the cabs are 170. Has the same
EL84 power tubes as the BJ, goes from butter chime to dimed and grind...id only recomend it if you are playing in basmenets with friends. prob not enough of an
amp to play at a club, but certainly loud enough for some blues jammin.

^^Adam loves his! also you could look into the Epi Valve Jr. at like 179 for the head/cabinet set (I think. around that area) I played a 339 through it a few
weeks back and it sounded ok. the one thing that makes it so cheap is there is only a volume knob.

OK so I got some great suggestions for you. Keep in mind that a lot of people think that fender is the only decent amps out there with a blues tone. Honestly
fenders are overpriced compared to other amps so here's my list.
Roland BC_30 Blues Cube (can be had for under 200 easily) Crate GT500H (head) around 200, get a cab for 100. The Laney LC30 is a great combo amp too. can be had for 200-300 depends on new or used. Yamaha G100 212 amp (Very loud and CHEAP similar to a twin reverb or deluxe reverb. Fender Hot rods can be had for under 300 too and I think they sound better than a Blues Jr. I bet you could get a fender bassman head for under 300 too. maybe even closer to 200. I think there's an amp called a peavey value king or something rather too that I played once, 250 bucks and 50 watts. Smoked for the money. I got more suggestions too if you want them.

You can probably pick up a 5 watt Fender Champ 600 pretty cheap but like others have said I'd go with a used BJ if you want to gig or at least play with a
drummer.

The Epiphone Valve Jr's a tube-sounding amp (I'm not even sure if it is a tube amp) in the $200 or so dollar price range. Haven't played one yet,
but from all I've heard they seem to offer a decent little tone.

Juhan, what kind of a tone are you going for?

Thanks for all the answers everyone. Maybe it's smarter for me to buy a proper amp that last a long time than buying something smaller...It's music
gear after all, it can cost!
Tone....I play mostly blues stuff and the occassional jazz. But yeah, mostly SRV, Hendrix, Albert King super bends kind of stuff...blues junior should go hand in hand with that |

Yeah for those tones I would stick to the Blues Junior. You've played on it and love it, so make that one happen.

Can't be arsed with ebay when im living in Sweden, and the music market here is pretty sucky (Expensive)
thomann.de is the cheapest way to get gear, it's even cheaper than buying used stuff ! |
