Wes Montgomerey
John Scofield Mike Stern Robben Ford (blues/jazz fusion) Jimmy Bruno (amazing guitarist from Phila. - he will blow your mind) Pat Martino Pat Metheney Those are my top jazz guys. I'm so thankful for learning all about jazz in my high school era. It prepared me for so much down the road. If you're considering a career in music, I recommend getting as deeply into jazz as you can for the moment. Learn all about how a standard jazz song is played (head, solos, tags, etc.). Also, pick up something called "The Real Book". |

+1 on Wes. the only other Gibson I'll buy will be an L-4 or a Wes Montgomery L-5.

Tone Driver wrote: well, I mean as far as Gibson hollow-bodies go. already have a 335, so a used L-4 or L-5 would be awesome. never use the back pickup, so the WM L-5 would be ideal for someone who didn't use the back pickup, right? |

Sorry, but which one is the back pickup? The bridge one?
I'm brazilian, if you'd like to know. Sorry for any english mistakes!

It's not like I'm going to buy the L-5 ahhaha.
My Sheraton II covers the jazz tones I need well enough, but if I wanted a hollow-body, I'd definitely buy an Ibanez

fredromaniszen wrote: I found a used L-5 Studio for around 1500, which is damn cheap considering the regular model goes for 10k today! even for me, that is REALLY expensive. this would be the closest Ibanez that they make to an L-5, the AG95:
^REALLY like the tailpiece. EDIT: A closer one, body-wise, would be the AF95:
the only difference is the sharpness of the lower cutaway. the AG is more Les Pual-like.

L33t, stop talking guitars. Is that all you can do really...it's a a thread about jazz guitarist and you start talking GUITARS

Watch the movie "Chasing Sound" which is the story of Les Paul and all he did for music and recording. I've watched it several times and it's
such a great video. Gives you an appreciation for jazz, the musicianship of some of the old players, musical recording, and Les himself.
It's on the Watch Instantly feature on Netflix if you have that, but I also recommend watching it any way you can. |
