This is my RW Strat straight into the CR. I use a TS-10 about halfway through. See how much a Two Rock plays a part in John's tone?

I don't see it. That actually sounds nothing like him considering the equipment you're using.

The amp has less an effect on his tone as does his ability as a guitarist, I think -- and I'd use this as exhibit A. Not to say the playing is bad, the playing is okay, but it's still nowhere near Mayer's. Proof positive the tone is in the guitarist. |

I use "see" because of his "See how much a Two Rock..." statement. Don't worry, I do realize seeing and hearing are different

I thought it sounded pretty awful and not close to be honest though.

i'm sure if it were mic'd properly it would sound great...nice playing man...do you have a better recording setup that you could use or no?

I don't think it's sounding bad? Just not close to John Mayer's tone

I think if it was properly mic'd it would have sounded kinda close. I could kinda hear it , did you record straight form the lap top mic?

Wow. I'm sorry, I just don't agree. Maybe it's cause my laptop mic is changing the sound so much. l33t, please...please...please show me how
it's done. Seriously, I wanna see you get closer to his tone like you said you could. That's a pretty arrogant statement for someone who's got tons
of amazing gear and still can't play with any soul.
I don't think the second half sounds like JM because the mic couldn't handle the volume. It sounds a lot more distorted than it actually is. But honestly, I don't see how you can hear that clean tone and say it's "not even close" to JM's tone. This really convinces me that some people on here are completely superficial. If you saw John Mayer playing that, you'd say it sounded great, but because it's someone attempting to demonstrate his tone, you naturally shoot it down. Anyone who can get closer, PLEASE post your video.

Good stuff. Just needs to be properly mic'd to get the full effect of the sound. Liked the licks.

I don't give a flying fuck if John Mayer is playing something I don't like, i'll be honest with him, maybe you're are to insecure too take negative criticism and that's pathetic. It's not like the microphone clipping is drastically changing the sound I can hear it fine. So here it is bud if you really need to hear it, I'm sorry all your expensive gear doesn't make you sound like John Mayer so you can prove some frivolous point to people on the internet.

bluewaterpig wrote: the problem I have is that you arrogantly say "See how much a Two-Rock plays a part in John's Tone?" yet you did not play a single Mayer tune. you didn't even play one of his solos or signature riffs. gobnew, on the other hand, played slow dancing very well, and showed perfectly how a Two-Rock plays a part in John's sound. @JM: dude, you beat me to the punch! kudos. |

I can't believe it, but I'm with JMMSM again. You shouldn't care that your tone doesn't sound as close as John Mayer's as you'd want
to.

Leetman I don't think it's that important for him to play things John Mayer has because he is flipping out over the sound and he seems to be in denial.

L33t I didnt take that in an arrogant way. I think blue was just saying that a player's amp has the most to do with his tone out of any of the gear. Each
item plays a big part, but it's the amp that really provides most of the sound.
Let's not get carried away fellas. Again, I thought it sounded good. |

It DID sound good. I just think that it's crazy to want to sound exactly like John Mayer and be pissed off because you don't.
