i wouldnt mind playing some guitar over it! my friend and i actually had a similar idea for a charity thing at school. hando what's your email address
maybe i could let you hear what my friend and i came up with sometime back.
and i think 12bar blues would be easiest and probably most universal? |

You guys should do like a bossa nova or something.
I'm actually the worst at soloing over a 12 bar compared to any other chord progression.

ahahaha
I don't think a lot of people here are used to soloing over a bossa nova/samba/jazz progression or something like that. I still think we should just get a backing track and solo over it. If there ain't enough space for everyone in one BT, than we have more jams over the same backing track until there ain't nobody else who wants it. Recording backing tracks will be more difficult than just doing this... Just my 0.02, anyways.
I'm brazilian, if you'd like to know. Sorry for any english mistakes!

Recording backing tracks will be more difficult than just doing this...Yea if anything that'll be the pain in the ass. I'm leaning towards Crossroads or Little Wing, but i think an up-tempo blues like Crossroads would be loads of fun. |

fredromaniszen wrote: like i said, the backing tracks will be SPLIT UP to send to everyone.. Then at compile time, i'll expand the backing track to accommodate the number of people. and we'll also audition the backing tracks to see if people like it. that will hopefully start on wednesday. for now, we need some songs. As someone mentioned earlier, it's best to actually get a song like crossroads or something that is made for a wide range of guitarists.

Seriously fred? People can't solo over a bosa nova?
It's not like they change keys five times. There plenty that are all in the same key, if you have half a brain you can figure out how to play over one.

People can solo over it. I just said most of the people here (including me) aren't USED to doing it.

jmsdiabrrocks wrote: trust me when i say that there are many guitar players who cant play that well out of their shell to play over a bosa nova. I mean, in music theory it may be simple, but a lot of people have a hard time getting adjusted to it because it's not something they listen to. this board is more blues oriented i think. And keep in mind that we have a wide range of skillsets here. i know this because i've heard MANY people trying to jam to something, but their style of play DOES NOT fit at all. if you've ever been on ninjam, you'd understand completely. They are very talented musicians on there, but they can't adjust very well to something that sounds different yet in music theory not much is different. but anyway, we haven't decided if this is a 12 bar blues set or an original song. we'll see what happens. After a guitarist count up to this point (12), this is going to be one long soloing section haha. I think it will work out. I'm not sure if i'll break up the rhythm section to each guitarist.

Yeah I get that, I have done online jamming.
I think people have this bad stigma of anything BUT a 12 bar blues if it has a major seventh in it then forget it! I just thought since plenty of bosas are in fact a jazz version of a 12 bar, that people can fit whatever they play over a standard 12 bar and it'd sound a lot cooler. It honestly has nothing to do with music theory though, sure it obviously helps but if you know how to solo in A major, you can do it even if you're used to just SRV and clapton licks.

Most of these are pretty decent.

I think it would be fitting if we used these. I'm entered with my teacher and his band (They won it 2 years ago) for the sept. 20th date. wish me luck! |

i reaally miss a slow blues song, like for instance Stormy Monday or You Better Leave My Little Girl Alone..

slow blues is kind of hard to handle because we'd have to rely on the intensity of the backbeat for each solo to give dramatic effect.
