Didn't SRV used to play with super reverbs before all the dumble mumbo jumbo?

He played a lot of amps. Super Revebs, Vibroverbs, lots of others.

Hendrix's alternate take off The Jimi Hendrix Experience Box Set. Theres also an alternate Bold as Love that is better than the original, you can certainly
hear a few licks that Mayer has borrowed

SRV's cover of Little Wing is my favorite recorded guitar piece of all time, period. Amazing chops, feel, performance, tone...everything. Not sure anyone
will ever touch that.

I'm a bigger SRV fan than you. Yes, really. However, having seen Monte Montgomery play little wing live I can assure you that his version is the best. end
of thread.

I'll give it to you that its cool and a truly original take on the cover.... But no way this is better than SRVs... sometimes more is just more - it doesn't make it better. But like debating anything else that's subjective - there's no right answer. You're entitled to your opinion and all that - but I really don't see it. just a guy named john

Whilst i love SRV's i have to say that there are fantastic Little Wing versions out there. Theres a fantastic one by The Corrs and another fairly good one
by Sting. They differ to SRV's but are still good

i prefer SRV's over anyone else's if i had to choose. the hendrix version i have is wayyy too short and i really don't enjoy the clapton one
i've got kicking around on my ipod. and that monte montgomery one, while unique, is just wronggg in my opinion. mayer did a pretty kick ass version at one
of the webster hall '04 blues shows pre-Trio, too. mayer had one of the more melodic vocal interpretations too if i'm remembering correctly. most
people try to imitate hendrix's singing too much when they do covers but mayer's pretty great and reminding everyone there's a real melody there.
gonna have to go make a playlist and put all these in order to really compare.
also not to be left out of consideration is the nude version marlow sent me. that was a double whammy... |
