Sight Reading Anyone? |
Lead | |
|
I've decided that I want to learn how to sight read. I know there are a few of you that attend music school so are their any recommendations for literature
on this topic. Tired of having to constantly reference a key when learning from sheet music. Thanks in advanced. PEACE.

I def recommend these two books:
'Rhythms Complete' from Bugs Bower - this book literally got me started on sight reading. I can't say enough on how much I learned from this thing. It's the ideal beginner's tool. http://aebersold.com/Merc...amp;Category_Code=TRUTEC 'Melodic Rhythms for Guitar' from Berklee Press (and not just because I got to the school that publishes it). They make an "advanced" version too if you finish these. http://www.berkleepress.c...11166&category_id=19 |

Who else here can sight read besides Bluewater?
Bluewater and others, what are some of the other benefits you've noticed besides actually being able to read? I started reading more about this topic and noticed how everyone praises the other benefits of being able to sight read. Was thinking we could get a little discussion going. |

Well, I played the saxophone as a kid so I can sight read music...guitar is a whole different thing. I learned some classical sight reading in college, but
it's pretty tough. Nowadays I can play pretty much anything by ear, but I know that all the lessons / training etc. is what got me there.

It depends on your career. All I know is if you can sight read well, let alone read music to begin with, you have a huge advantage over others who cannot. If
you wanna have a steady job as a musician, reading is a must.
