Wouldn't say surprised.. sorta counterproductive to make any type of announcement about a product in the middle of the holidays when everyone's more preoccupied living their lives. But personally I never took the January thing too seriously. John hasn't exactly maintained our trust when it comes to timetables (small price to pay when you consider the quality of his output), so anything until the record is in my hands is just hype. Seeing how he was still open to writing & adding more songs mere weeks ago, anything about a release date is pretty much meaningless.
At this point, a small part of me is hoping it gets pushed back enough that the final tracklist finds more cohesion than how he's been talking about it. The mixtape/album thing doesn't really feel like the Continuum-level statement he's trying to make, nor does the album concept of "ya know, Everything man" leave many places to go with the next one. Ideally, since the album's still a work in progress (as far as we know anyway) I'd like to see that song I'm trying to forget about find its way to just existing as a standalone single. I'm happy for anyone who gets enjoyment out of it, but personally it hasn't grown on me at all, to the point that I'm kinda irked about the idea of giving the song any money . I figure if the record gets pushed to sometime in March (I know most of us don't want to think about that, but for an unfinished record that's not unreasonable) & there's a 4 month gap between the single & the album, then that's at least a possibility.
On second thought; no, I want the album now

John's mind is always second guessing and he'll say something then do something completely different, which if it bennefits the finished work, so be it. But this time around I think he did a poor choice on the single. It doesn't have more than 4 million views on youtube which in today's world is crap. It should've been a comeback with more impact, he should be doing interviews, radio etc. (not saying he should be talking about personal life or dissing people but saying something would be nice, and it would draw attention).
Everything is so volatile in modern day that you can be forgotten very quickly because there's always a new guy in town who's ready to be what the world needs in that moment. John has never been that, he's been truthful to the craft, and right now I think either he's a bit lost and disappointed about the lack of success of LOTW, or he's really confident this record is the one. Time will tell, but I for one completely trust in John's judgement about what makes a good song, and the record will work out. If he has to push back the release, just do it, is for the best.
Just my opinion tho

He is on the Clapton level. He is a legend and he can do what he wants. Show the man some respect. Beiber and all of the rest are plastic. John is gold. You can buy views on YT and followers on Twitter, come on!
I'm pretty sure that even after we've gone, his music will live. And of all the "music" that has 40, 100, 200 million views on YT today will be replaced by something even shittier by then and no one will remember those guys.
I'm saying this as a fan and as a musician. I love his music, I think he is a cool dude and please, don't get me wrong. But, I bet his gonna give us a pretty rad album.
He's done it before and He's gonna do it again. That's how much I trust that man. Yes, He changed my life forever with his music and I am grateful for that.

Seems like something

Seems like somethingI think in this thing he keeps his favourite mic. He posted this mic in such a case, or maybe a similar one, a while ago on instagram when he was in Montana.
