Ok guys,image

So, you were right for the compressor, it's a cheap Marshall ED1 (very great for the money !), if you're like me, a young student who couldn't affort fancy boutique pedals , just check it out !

The reverb is a EHX Holygrail on the Hall setting I think.

It's of course à Strat, not a big one it's just a Made in Mexico standart Classic Player 60's with CS 69 stocks Pickups (and I really can't understand why people on the net alway say that they are bright !!! For me they just sound great !). Neck + Middle position pickup

For the amp, I made this post to show that for me that type of Mayer tone can be also get from a non fender based amp and most of all without spending 7K$ in gear !

It's not a Ceriatone Overtone. I sold mine, it got a great clean, but I hate the OD channel (even with some mods) I used mine with some OD pedals on the clean channel only and it was really cool but it really hates the fuzz pedals and as a Hendrix fan, I cannot stand that imageimage..
The only thing I miss by selling this amp is the preamp boost, I have to buy an clean boost to give a try..

So, it's my old Marshall JMP 2203 (so a JCM800 circuit with EL34 & 12AX7 tubes)
The cab is a Marshall 4x12 from the 80's loaded with G12-65 by Celestion.

I should do a "Vultures" sample with this setting, it's so damn close image

The key for this tones are : a strat, use your tone pot if your pickups & amp are REALLY too bright and most of all a compressor. With a compressor & a tubescreamer (a Fulltone Fulldrive in my case) I can be really really really close of most of mayer's sound.

I tried lately an early Fuchs ODS (a Friends one's) it just sounded like my Overtone (with more options and it's take better fuzz pedals) but was really not better than Marshall for theses type of tones..
The cheapest setup I had the occasion to try and which gives the best results for JM3's tone was a Classic player 60's straigh into a Fender Blues Deluxe Ri. The only problem that it should lack of headroom, but maybe with lower gain preamptubes...

Here another quick exemple with a cheap MIC ES335 copy, a Fulldrive 2 in the clean channel and a bit of delay from a Line 6 DL4

I'm just starting to using my recording set up so it's a quick one.

JMP2203 rules =p

man, alex got the guitar dead on! I'd love to hear that Vultures sample if you have time.
