ok so that just took me way too long to remember how to post a pic. i was digging deep into my memory banks there for something i used to do on here...oh man...7 years ago. i dont even think i had a digi camera then. i had a camera with film! and i used to scan my photos so i could share them with you all. what a hard out. probably only renee remembers me from then. holla ren! good to spot you in the crowd too. and you rosie, 4 years since he last got us together. too long. nice to meet some new faces too.

anyhoo, here's my pic from the meet and greet that i can't believe i won. i took my guitar along to get signed. my sister said afterwards i was a little crazy during our meeting. but whatever, i really had to make him understand how much his music means to me and for how long it has kept me going. i think he got it. i hope he got it.

we wanted to make a wise crack about the pants at the m&g. but i think humour is lost in that kind of rushed hyper environment, so we curbed it. they were outragous. but in a good way. i dug them. they give off that 'i'm on holiday in a foreign land and i can wear what i want coz i dont know anyone' vibe. we may have lost him with our back to the future story (was anyone there at the '04 auckland show? is there a tape out there of it?), i didn't see the flicker of recognition in his eyes we were hoping for. but then there wasn't much flickering back there at all. i hope his little tour down under can put the sparkle back.

so the concert. tres interesting setlist. i would call it his gritty not pretty songs. 'cept maybe for heart of life which is a pretty one. i loved it, coz i love all his songs (snap rosie) but i did miss me some beautiful slow dancing, free fallin or of course, in your atmosphere goodness. that's probably about as likely as covered in rain. i gave up yelling out for that years ago. but hello belief. i do believe from memory he opened with that at the last auckland show though...in '06. way to not do your research buddy :- ) i mean it was only 4 years ago. which by the way is too long. dont ever do that again.

major shout out to keith on the drums. where did he find that maestro? i had to laugh it was so good. i didnt know what else to do. it was like fireworks going off. it boggles the mind.

i missed the banter. but i guess he's not a goof anymore. hes all grown up. i have to say i am left wanting more when i go to a concert and the band rattles off the songs we all love and does it really well, but doesnt pause to connect with the audience outside of that. not saying john did that last night, just pointing out the path he might do well to steer clear of. we want a personal piece of you.

nst was straight out of circa '01. my eyes may have glazed over and everything. i had visions of him eating the hohos without payin a dime. what the hell are hohos anyway. we dont get them here. throwing in the btmb bit also took me back to my old fave knitting factory show too. so i guess he was looking out for the die hards there. thanks.

i loved hearing the new stuff live, especially heartbreak warfare and who says. i feel like a fraud fan calling out the hits. but well, they aren't called hits for nothing.

he had some good energy when he was playing. i'll never tire of seeing him play that guitar close up. he got through them all so quickly though.

and it was nice to see the guitar faces havent deserted him. they were out in full force. i got a few pearlers with my 'camera'. ive put that in quotes because last i checked john was not a walking piece of fuzz and thats all i seem to be able to get with that p.o.s. 1 in 167 come out all right though. if you're lucky i may get my act together and take the favourite mayer pics thread back to its humble beginnings.

good crowd, i was pleasantly surprised. i enjoyed the dart bit at the end. that was a bit of the old john. and the fact it bombed before it even hit the crowd. gold.

thanks john from a lifetime superfan. heaps. and please come back soon.
