thanks guys - i am definitely gonna take some of this advice, i hadn't even thought of the business card idea. i definitely consider myself a nice guy - i'm always supportive of the other acts that are playing and i do try to actually talk to the bartenders, service staff, clients, etc. as far as good looking, i dunno - my mom thinks i'm handsome
i am currently in the process of picking about six songs - simple, popular stuff that people will recognize and enjoy (i'm thinking beatles, jack johnson, bob dylan, MAYBE a mayer song thats not too bad on the vocals like come back to bed. i dont even want to try to hit some of the notes he does) and then just practicing them every day all day over and over and over and over until i think i have it perfect, and then practice some more. i figure i'll be able to market something like that pretty easily to a bar or restaurant that's looking for acts as long as i can get it sounding good enough. my main problem as i've said before is my singing voice, but my ear has gotten pretty decent from theory and interval practice so i'm hoping i'll be able to get to an acceptable level fairly quick, assuming i put in a lot of practice consistently. i literally have nothing else to do this summer (no summer classes or other jobs except the church gig i mentioned before) so its feasible for me to be practicing 3+ hours every day.
it's not that i don't want to write songs, get signed to a record label, become a rock star and date jessica simpson and jennifer aniston, but for right now i'm trying to keep my goals realistic. once i've become fairly established locally then i'll start figuring out what the next step will be from there. i dont want to get too ahead of myself, i still have work to do to get myself polished to a level i find acceptable.
