I've been playing 27 years now - started when I was 11. I've started back on taking lessons with a great, old school teacher here in Nashville. We're focusing on breaking some bad habits I have with my right hand and how it affects my rhythm in all parts of my playing.

One major thing that I'd add to what's been said here - get a cheap metronome and practice playing to a beat. Start slow and work your way up. I wish I'd paid more attention to that over the years. StratLovesLenny is spot on with the advice above. Keep at it and you'll have something you can do for the rest of your life. We've all been in the same place you're in right now.

One more thing...when you feel you're ready, play with people who are better than you and don't be afraid to do it. It'll make you play better and push you to get better.
