I haven't posted on here in a long time but I love the subject of tone. If someone wants to have a discussion on tone why not? Why argue the point? Talk tone. Songwriting and tone and fingers are three different subjects, but as for the drive for tone, it is the start of everything. Anybody here ever bought an electric guitar without plugging it in? That's the tone we're listening to when we do plug in. How about an acoustic? We give it a big old strum, too much bass, too much middle. That's tone as well. The only time tone was nothing is when our mom bought us our first guitar and a chord book and we learned. Everything after that was a decision based on tone. I LOVE it when a guy like Joe B talks tone. Like any lesson on anything we get to learn something that would have taken us years, maybe decades to discover. If ever. The setup mentioned at the start of this thread I'm going to try and thank you so much for posting it. I gotta spend more time at the JB boards. I remember reading when Trower mentioned he adjusted the amp almost flat. Base at 4 Treble at 2. Changed my entire way of playing. Single coils changed it as well. Rosewood over maple, heavy pick over thin, keeping the amp on the floor for the resonance, tone is so integrated into the fabric of music I think we forget just how absolutely we rely on our tone to keep us happy and to make the music we make. So please talk tone. I for one have much to learn on the subject.
