Nothing unusual about it at all. There are plenty of slow blues from the same era that sound exactly the same like "Stone Crazy" by Buddy Guy or any slow blues by one of the three kings that were all made around the same time. There are only so many ways you can play a 12 bar slow blues, and neither Mayer nor Joe were trying to reinvent the wheel.
