this cd is just as good as anything as john's ever done. and of course david is the type of musician who could be famous and recognized for his music if he wanted to, but he does things his own way anyway

Subjective, or not, but this is ridiculous to say DRH doesn't want to win Grammys and want to better his life financially by staying in the shadows. Sorry.

he has all of the resources available at the push of a button. he tours with top people like bon jovi, and plays with john mayer. if he's staying in the shadows, i'd say it's by choice. fame isn't for everybody. i can imagine he still makes top dollar playing with who he plays

So why did he reach out to public for money to offset cost to produce album and not have a big record label covering all costs.?. Oh, because he wants his fans to feel they own stock in his work, while it builds up his own self resolve to do things the hard way, all while staying virtually unknown outside of John Mayer fans and making maybe about 1/4 to what Mayer earns for one (1) show, maybe less.?. Yes, just a red button or batman phone away from riches and broad exposure of his work via headlining arenas when he wants......please. There are many talented artist, as he is, but goal is to stay in Ritz Carlton's, not in Fairfield Inns for free breakfast and indigestion. Anyone who makes comments such as yours, screams a person who has the auto mechanism reaction to make excuse for not making it, or more likely, not wanting to grow up. Money isn't everything, but if truckloads are available for free for doing what you love, you take it and better your families life at minimum. This rant is not directed at DRH, but your "push of a button" comment. PS for what I've heard, you can make a very good living playing in a legendary band that plays sold out arenas throughout year, but when main artist takes a year or more off from touring, then it's likely a struggle to earn same income/salary. Sorry....couldn't get breaks for paragraph.

i can see where you're coming from totally. and i don't advocate the diy/punk mentality out of some youthful stubbornness. but i look at all the musicians john plays with, accomplished in their own right, and older, 45 yo + who are satisfied making money being in the background, probably thinking fame is a young man's game; a lot of them have already played with their dream musicians and they have seen fame from the insider's point of view. take one of john's guitar teachers from berklee for example, tomo fujita. probably 50 years old, if not older, could easily enter guitar competitions and win a lot of them for fame (or at least come close) but it's not his game anymore. he chooses the small town life, and to give others the gift of playing guitar by teaching instead at a university. drh could probably enter american idol and beat every single contestant. he has the chops. ps for the record, i think money is a great thing to have.
Doing what you love for work/$ is special in itself, especially if you make a comfortable $, support family, put kids through college, etc..... it's the American Dream......IMO.

I've spoken with Tomo and Matt Schofield, both super nice people and very talented, but these cats would love for 250 million to listen/buy there music, not 250,000.
