I don't think she will go down in history as a singer songwriter, with all due respect. Lets respect JM for his artistic interpretation of her/.their song instead of busting on him for taking the easy way out. Something about that song moved him. We don't know the back story./

Its moving and more heartfelt to me.The music buying public seems to agree based on the fact that his version is supposedly charitng better than hers did. He nailed it. On the same token, who knows? maybe a Beyonce version of Gravity would blow JM's away!!

The point is, he's seems to be chasing the next thing, it failed IMO with last two albums and came across as forced, which included his attire, which made it worse. Perhaps all successful people worry about fading, I do when consumers aren't trending for a month on my stuff, but I learned to keep my eye on the road and not panic, not change, stick to my roots, which to date have served me well.....to date...lol. Perhaps, he feels like his tank is empty, getting a little or lot desperate when he see 's down trends and forgets what got him here in the first place. It's tough to see the graph trend down, I understand, but a panicking sales person never sells. I'm not saying stick to one ingredient, no, mix it up for fun to change things up to stay fresh, play covers like XO, etc, but only to surprise at a show. Put out a second album in a year that's fun for you, if it's well received great, if not, who cares, it's not the core. He seems to have become an artist more concerned about status and branding.....forced. Forced = Failure. Long day at the office, hope I expressed myself above as intended....and let's not forget, I'm as big, or bigger fan of his then anyone.

I said I liked the song, but we all know he released it for a reason, not because he just "looooved" the song... Whether it be he wanted to stay relevant or he is planning on going that direction with his next album, the man is smart, he knows what he is doing and he has a plan.... Sometimes they work, sometimes not.... That is true for everyone, I suspect... You said. "Not into "debates" on these types of forums. I respect your feelings which are different than mine. " Guess that was to tone driver and not me. I don't know where you are getting the rest of your post from, KP and fake followers but I get to state my opinion even if it differs from yours... And you are right, this is a crazy conversation... Besides, remember the man said he didn't need hits anymore so this is all pretty moot...

DyanCan wrote:t92780 , maybe he is not just thinking about success in his music, but he is also thinking about making money for his record company. In one of his interviews he mentioned that he likes owning Max Pittion because it is his company and he can call the creative shots. He went on to say that as a singer-songwriter with a recording contract he does not have the same creative freedom. Could he be keeping his eye, partially, on the future and whether he gets another recording contract when this one is over?

And your critiques are somewhat negative oftentimes. Just an observation ---------------------- that's okay because I have the right to be negative sometimes, just as you have the right to be rah rah... No one is going to change their minds by words on a page... Very sad but true and who wrote that hmmmm... I have to admit. I have lost a few streamers from my Pom poms over the years... I have switched to coffee from Koolaid and yes the shine has come off the man since 1999... And of course that happens, you get jaded as you grow.. John is no exception... he was a naive kid when I met him in 99 and I've watched him grow, he's the same age as my kid..... I can relate. And I went through my phase of defending him, but I'm old now and I don't have to pussyfoot around,as they say in the ol west, and if I come off a bit harsh, some of it I truly mean and some of it you are reading in ... Most of it is just a sigh and a head shake, as in "are you kidding John? Really?" There is always going to be a yin and yang on this board and we have to have it, it balances out... If we all thought he was the second coming, it actually would be a pretty boring board... When the drinking and stupidity was at its height, a few people got tired of all us negative nellies and stomped off and made their own board.. Only positive comments.. It lasted about 2 months... Gotta have the sugar with the sour... It's what makes life interesting and challenging.. As T9 said, I'm probably a big or bigger fan than anyone here... My Pom poms are just a bit dusty.. 😀
