--John hasn't told his parents about In The Blood, nor have they heard it yet. But he's not afraid for them to hear it.
--John views War of My Life as a previous exercise in trying to go deep where he did on this record, such as In the Blood.
--The Theme for TSfE was written on a lonely, chilly Christmas Day. He thought it wasn't anything special the day he wrote it, but fell in love with it upon hearing it much later on.
--You're Gonna Live Forever in Me came to him in the shower one day, at least the title and the idea.
--John views the whole record as one about pain and not about anger. He gives a very interesting broken vase analogy about cleaning up his own feelings and separating this record from its source material (i.e. Katy breakup).
--John mentioned that we will hear more about his poem in the future. Perhaps that whole section about "bloodied knees" and what not that didn't make the liner notes will serve as a backing for Vol 2?

He doesn't sound angry or as if he's taking jabs at either his mother or father to me, but instead almost questioning the idea of a type of manifest destiny. He's asking whether he can create his own life and persona or if family histories just repeat themselves over and over. At this stage of his fame, most people would probably argue that he's certainly outshined his parents and made it for himself, so it's heartbreaking to hear that he's still hung up on this idea. We all find a bit of our parents in ourselves, right? Including the good and the bad; it can't be helped. That's how I think John is looking at it.
That being said, I'm quite shocked he didn't play the song for any family members before serving it up to the masses. Even if he's not taking jabs, it's a deeply personally song that I think he'd want them to hear. I would have said the same thing about Born & Raised (the song) back in '12.

You mind posting the liner notes fan dedication? My CD isn't due to be here until the 19th! Only if it's not too much trouble.

So I appreciate the In the Blood and NPR discussion, but it is most decidely not Random JMc. The NPR link should go in the Media Interview thread and In the Blood (and other song discussions) should either go there, where they flow, or in the full album thread.Just tryin' to keep things kinda neat and sorted,Joc
