Hi guys, wondering if you can shine a light on this...
I was on the Guitar Guitar (chain of shops in the UK) site today, and found this – the Fender Custom Shop John Mayer Olympic White Strat.
As a lefty, I was obviously pretty excited. We never get the good stuff, and we've never had a JM model. But the more I look at it, the more I wonder what the deal is. It sounds exactly like a normal JM model; the only obvious difference when you A/B the specs is a 3-ply pickguard when Fender says it's 4.
Has anyone got any insight into this? My best guess is that it's just a Custom Shop version of a standard JM Strat, made for lefties. I guess you get Custom Shop build quality, and that's worth something, but still.
For context, the £3k they're asking is a ton of money for a Strat. It's almost twice the price of a right-handed JM, and you can get a Custom Shop '61 NOS for 2,400.
Any thoughts/guesses welcome. Thanks guys.
