Cheryl Barnes’ good friend Rickey Minor, Musical Director on American Idol, is featured playing bass on her new Jazz album “Listen to This”. For those who don’t know him, he is a famous composer and music producer, now best known as the former musical director and bandleader on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
“Listen To This” is Cheryl’s fourth studio album and is an intense collaboration with her husband/pianist Phil Cabasso. Produced by Rahn Coleman and also featuring the impassioned piano playing of her husband Phil Cabasso, “Listen to This” was patiently rendered over a 5-year period, prepared with tender loving care utilizing Los Angeles’ finest, including soloists saxophonists Rickey Woodard and Pete Christlieb, pianists John Hammond and Joel Scott, and trumpeter Nolan Shaheed. Cheryl’s life has revolved around loving music, and this album is the fruit of her personality and passion.
Rickey Minor reviewed the album saying these kind words: “Cheryl’s voice is sultry and full of soul. [Hearing her sing], you’ll be instantly transported to a place of warmth and serenity. Simply timeless.” Judge by yourself listening to the track “Like Jazz” recorded in Live at the Rockwell Table and Stage here: http://tinyurl.com/likejazz.
