First off, I know most here have a lot of reverence for JM's "tone". With that being said, I know there are a lot of other people who are into finding their own tone. This pedal is not for JM-type tones, but it can be instrumental in finding your tone. I've been on this board a long time, and I love JM's continuum tone (who doesn't), but I play LP's, teles, the occasional strat, and Dr. Z amps; not exactly a JM recipe. So, if you aren't interested in non-JM tones, i'm probably not someone you want to listen to.

I'm a big Dr. Z fan. I currently have a carmen ghia and an EZG50. I just recently sold a stang ray and have had a KT45 in the past. I will likely be picking up another amp (remedy, therapy, antidote, z-28..can't decide) in the very near future. I would highly recommend checking out his amps; great price point, super reliable, and great tone machines (although not D-style).
Okay, back to this pedal. This is a 2-channel drive pedal (red and green side) that has a full EQ at the front end of the pedal. The doc partnered with EQD on this. You can read more about it here > http://drzamps.com/product/z-drive/

What this pedal does, better than any drive pedal i've used (and i've used A LOT), is it feels/sounds/responds the same way your amp would respond. The active EQ is the absolute best feature I have found in a drive pedal. To be honest, I love the tone knob on my ghia amp, but hate messing with tone knobs on drive pedals (and voice knobs, etc). With this EQ, if i need more cut, I turn up the mids. Oh dang, the treble is getting a bit harsh, or i want a darker tone, I knock back the treble.
One complaint about this pedal is that you can't "stack" drives. You don't need to. There is plenty of gain on tap. Also, Dr. Z has said that oscillations became an issue when testing this feature so they did not include it.
This is maybe the longest post i've written about gear in a long time. I highly recommend this pedal. Ok, back to playing!
