Ry, that is an interesting article. It speaks to the true nature of national politics and corporate interests being Oz behind the curtain. Capitalism has its downsides and corporate interests' political influence is one of but many.

I believe that Obama's campaign call for "change you can believe in" was and is still sincere. I also believe he knew that that change would take a long-ass time if it is truly to be lasting change. The kind of changes he proposes cannot happen over night, not in his first 7 months in office, maybe not in a first term, especially in the polarized political nature of the US right now.

In many ways our country has the emotional maturity of a 4 year old, and that includes BHL's: I want change NOW! Obama's major challenge is always going to be matching actual possible progress with extremely high expectations.

There are some that say the Dems control of Congress should mean we just pass the liberal agenda boom, boom, boom. But Obama takes the long view and he knows shoving the liberal agenda down 49% of the American population's throat is not a recipe for long lasting change, and can precipitate more national divisiveness if rushed through.

When he said "change you can believe in" he meant it. Dude has the wisdom and patience to be a moderate. He'd like to make changes with much national consent. That's why some BHLs voted for him, although many wanted him to shove shit through. His secret personal weapon is his knowledge of what it will truly take to make change that lasts and still have "hope" that change is possible. I don't think this makes him naïve as much as a freaking saint.

I have infinite patience with him. His vision is wise and I still trust him to do the best he can to make the most progressive changes he can for the benefit of all Americans - and the world - within the current political climate.

I think the article would've been better titled "Are Americans Being Duped?" I don't think it's the president here, but I don't think a lot of Americans realize how deep-rooted these problems are with corporations and lobbyists and how much influence they have over our country and the way it's run. Sometimes, I wish the media would pay closer attention to those things and report that rather than report stupid stories that really are a waste of time.

What the author said in the article makes sense...it's probably not "right-wing" folks dominating these town hall meetings, it's probably folks being paid by the insurance and pharmaceutical companies to crash the meetings. And if that is true, why hasn't the media picked up on this and why aren't they reporting it? If anything, it's hurting the cause for getting any reform passed because it just amps up the conservative base and makes them feel like this is one side vs. the other when in reality that may not be so representative of things.

I wish I could've lived through the days of Cronkite. Where news was truly reported fairly and unbiasedly. Every news outlet anymore seems to lean left or right and I don't want either perspective. I just want the truth.
