Why is it so much easier to say "I love you" to someone you don't love? I mean, that's kind of weird, isn't it? Its so much harder to say and do things like that when you mean it -- because then you actually got something to lose. Anyways, that is irrevelant to this thread. Here's my song selection in an order, as well. ^ Ryan Adams - Hard Way To Fall (shitty quality, but the words are so sweet.. love the part where he tells the other dude to take care of her, cause when you love someone all you care about is that they are truly happy. I know that feeling....) Ryan Adams - The Sun Also Sets The Wallflowers - Letters From The Wasteland Keith Urban - Tonight I Wanna Cry Keith Urban - You'll Think Of Me Keith Urban - Stupid Boy Ryan Adams- Rescue Blues Keith Urban - Once In A Lifetime The Wallflowers - How Good It Can Get Lifehouse - Whatever It Takes

So at Starbucks this morning, I heard Sarah Mclachlan's version of the Joni Mitchell song, River, and instantly remembered why this is one of my favorite
Holiday tunes. I ran home to check out it again on itunes and melted.
The song is not exactly "bubbly", but the lyrics (and music) are mesmerizing enough to get a "Debbie Downer" like me into some kind of holiday spirit. http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/sarahmclachlan/river.html I might have to download the whole damn x-mas album now, even though, as the ultimate SM fan, I've turned my nose up at it without giving it a fair listen.

I've been digging the lyrics to some '80s hits:
I'll Stand By You by the Pretenders: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/p/pretenders/ill+stand+by+you_20110661.html and Metro by Berlin: http://www.lyrics007.com/Berlin%20Lyrics/The%20Metro%20Lyrics.html The lyrics to these are as penetrating as the intense vocals. Good stuff. . .

"Let Your Troubles Roll By" - Carbon Leaf
Love endures, it clings away When asked to leave, it begs to stay Like the perfect song, at imperfect times It's the way the chords struck with the rhymes So let your troubles roll by... He knows he can help himself He can tell by a look at the books on his shelf And someone, somewhere loses her son Before her own sunset is said and done And she dreams of sunflowers bent-over Frozen in snow, and thinks 'Colorado.. ?' But then plays her life back in slow motion To keep in touch with that raw emotion In the night, crushed empty can Olive Oyle is waiting for her man To come in from the fight That will change their life 'For good this time...' When all of your tears dry, let your troubles roll by Like New Year's Eve, tonight's underway But tomorrow you'll wake up afraid of the day 'Cause underneath the scars of your broken dreams An undone war still wages and stings You fear the year will blow Like a breeze through a rainbow You swear it's there, but you can't grab a hold So you sit and cry and wonder why, why, why... When all of your tears dry, let your troubles roll by So many cities and windows and lives And through each one there's a soul that strives to survive So pay no mind, my sorrow's fine The day is alive and that's why I cry It's a New Year's toast, grab your list to conspire The last snake hissed as he was thrown in the fire You've come far, and though you're far from the end You don't mind where you are, cause you know where you've been Like a culture vulture sprawled out on the floor Like a dead devil soldier washed up on the shore With nothing of note but the ole' Capt.'s coat And a burning boat you just sank with your salty tears... <3 <3 <3 <3 |

Re. the below, I think you can wrap it up into a short but simple claim that they are all a bunch of douchebags.
It makes me sick to my stomach that all of this has happened on John Mayer related sites and is even SLIGHTLY associated with the name of an amazing artist that I will always adore and admire. And I don't give a damn what his tolerance level is for insults and disagreements about how he looks and is portrayed, but I will stand up and fight for the fact that John Mayer is NOT responsible for this mess in any shape or form. Let me repeat. John Mayer is NOT responsible for any of the catfighting, bullying or ugliness associated with any of these episodes from either side of the "fight." The "fans" who condone and egg on this aggressive, insulting and bullying tirade against me and others are not only bringing an incredible disgrace to me, a simple but honest person who has dedicated her short life to trying to do the right thing, but to other victims who have suffered from worse bouts of bullying and to John Mayer's good character and name. Anyone who continues to propogate this in a negative light against me, other victims and John Mayer without truly knowing all of the facts should be completely ashamed of themselves. They are not real fans and I find them morally questionable. There are truths to this whole thing that will never be revealed publicly, so no one has the right to judge me, him and other bully victims in a negative way. The real culprits of this whole fiasco have nothing to do with me or him and should be held accountable to mend the mistakes of allowing things to get as bad as they did. |

Okay. That's established. They are douchebags. No news there.
So why do I feel like there's still a lingering problem that upsets peace among the "good" fans and would probably take a group effort to resolve because it probably should be resolved? For those that are tender hearted, there's always the therapist and medication. A very solid choice. Well wishes from John Mayer. Excellent. Not reading the gossip and staying off message boards? Very reasonable idea. But what else? An orgy party with the "good" fans and Uncle John? Nah. As perverted as it sounds, I admit to having a friendly crush on this Uncle, and would continue to flirt from all the rooftops. But I would never ever make whoopee with a relative. There must be another option. . .Hmmm. . . That Led Zepplin song, Friends, has kick ass lyrics: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/ledzeppelin/friends.html And I know Christmas is over, but the lyrics to Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer get me everytime: http://www.41051.com/xmaslyrics/grandma.html Also, another tear jerker, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own by U2 is brilliant: http://www.lyricsandsongs.com/song/96288.html

Sorry to borrow from the Uncle's post completely, but he makes this statement: THERE ARE OTHER PERSONALITIES IN THIS WORLD THAT ARE NOT INHERENTLY SYMPATHETIC TO OUR OWN. Herein lies the lingering problem, although I don't think it's a problem unless it's a problem for you. I've been around here since '03, and I don't recall feeling any such hostility until a few months down the line, at which point I picked up on the same stuff that you are talking about, and I've left the boards for months at a time to not have to deal with it. I think there are a lot of ways to be an MSMer. There are those who aggressively seek the musical experience, i.e. perhaps Debbie or Jocelyn. There are those who fawn over the lyrics and the banter and everything last thing that comes out of John's mouth. There are those who want to bang uncle John. There are those who seek refuge in being a part of this something bigger than oneself that John facilitates. And it's a personal choice to be a member. Whichever standpoint you choose, you will be challenged, no matter how much you believe your opinion is the most valid. It's the same as in a college classroom or a political discussion or a business meeting or a group dinner. You put your thoughts out there. People agree, disagree, slam you, embrace you, hang you out to dry, etc. You have to stand up for what YOU believe and don't back down if you believe it's worth saying. If the pressure coming back at you is too much to bear, perhaps you should take your opinions elsewhere. If you got slammed in a meeting with your boss, would you continue to come back to him with the same argument again and again and again and again, if the answer is still NO, YOU SUCK, YOU'RE WRONG, YOU'RE FIRED, etc? You would probably change jobs or give up. Here, the MSM world, like the real world, perpetuates itself, and every man or woman has the right to voice their opinion in whichever way they wish for as long as the board is standing. If you feel like you're being that beat up on, then it's pretty masochistic for you to stay in it. I think there are a lot of people who really really get where John's coming from and who he is, was, or is becoming, and I think he knows them when he sees them, and I think there are a lot of people who don't, and he knows them when he sees them, too. If you feel you're one of the ones who gets him, then the connections you feel and the power that you have to make the differences the world are great; but I would advise you not to try too hard to tell people what it's all about, because it's a personal experience for everyone, and the more you try to make people see where you're coming from based solely from your words broadcast randomly on a message board, the more futile your efforts may be.P.S. Grandma got run over by a reindeer has no place in this thread.

Well I don't happen to think that someone that fawns and admires his lyrics and blogs or showers him with compliments is being disingenuous as a fan or
simply just wants to bang him. Some people are raised with the credo that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything. Doesn't
mean that whatever nice thing that does come out of their mouth is a bold faced lie. Anyway, that's off topic.
My main question is: is doing the right thing or remedying a situation that can't be simply brushed off, the same as telling people what to do? I guess for me, Something's Missing, still. *sigh* I guess the answer will always be a mystery. Signing off. . .

Sorry, I guess I didn't know you were trying to remedy the problems with the intention of fixing the thing once and for all. In your quiet way, perhaps
you are on your way to creating peace among MSMers and then maybe eventually you will create peace in the world. I think if the something that's missing
for you is enough love for all people, the end of disease, the end of suffering, the end of torture, then you're on to something. Don't give up. If
you're secretly trying to say that something's missing but you don't know what it is, keep searching, don't settle for it remaining a mystery.
You'll find it eventually.
And now, we would like to welcome everyone to slam our opinions. Go ahead, have at it. I can't see you through my bullshit-filtering goggles.
