Here are my thoughts on the flood of newcomers:
1) You are overexcited. I understand you want to gain a foothold in this society by trying to be helpful and posting new finds but seriously, it takes 30
seconds to go back two pages and realize that the ATT Blue Room & Amazon links were already posted. Twice. Offenders: alpachinoJM (an apology beforehand does not make it right) and ukmayerfan (reference page 11 sir)
2) You try to be too thoughtful. Don't start out with your deep posts, especially when relating to JM's personal life. Originally, my understanding is
that such talk would have been removed. However, it should be kept to a minimum, certainly not a life-changing paragraph and NOT in your first bach of posts.

3) You need to LOOK AROUND and get a feel for the board. Ease yourself into things. Start small and build up. Do not start a new thread for every little
question that you have, music or fashion-related You can post those, but in the RANDOM thread. Believe me, veterans check there, they want to help you out if
you ask the right way (and in the right location). Take your time and get adjusted, figure out where everything goes, figure out what is appropriate, what is
frowned upon and what is just plain annoying.. Offenders: musicfan101, Wordy Dirts
(two words: random thread), Lauren (John Mayer Is Hung Like A Horse).
4) Don't do a Ryan. He joined a month before me (7 months ago) and has amassed nearly 1500 posts. But guess what? He actually contributes. And
that doesn't mean reposting stuff that has already been posted on TRY. He does some nice vids, uploads, finds some cool stuff. And let me reiterate (yes, I
checked dictionary.com for that spelling): Ryan does not repost, he looks before he posts and he posts in the right places. But for most of the newcomers, you
don't have as much time as Ryan or have the ability to bring more substance to the board.
Yet. That may come. But now for the moment, please be quiet.

What does it matter how many posts someone has? I have like 100 and I've been here since 2003.
Here are my thoughts...let the mods do their job (policing posts and threads) and you do yours -- reading and posting. And calling people out like that is just bad form.

I very much like that "doing a Ryan" is now an official MSM phrase, though yes, he did win me over also.
I also think the lot of us need to get over it or find a new forum. The company just went public and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. Especially seeing as the bloke who is the subject matter is the one who did the outing. Waahhh... get a pacifier and shut the hell up, yes? |

As someone who just joined, let me just mention some things.
People come here to get away from the bureaucracy that is the American society. I almost didn't join up because I saw this post, but felt it necessary to at least comment before never coming back here again. Yes, JM did make this public knowledge -- you should be excited about that. I don't know him personally and I'm sure that most of you don't, either, and so I cannot say for sure, but from what I do know, I don't think that he'd be all for your elitist bullshit. This is the internet. It is not your job to tell people how to post, when to post, what to post. Hell, it's barely even the moderators' job to tell people how and when and where. With that, sir, the fact that you called out individual names and linked them to their "fault" or their "offense" is absolutely ridiculous. It is your kind of behavior that causes people to not share what they're thinking. We've already seen a breakdown of communication and the ability to communicate in our society. I will loosely attribute that to people who try and say they're the only ones who know how and that everyone else should wait their turn and "bide their time." Mainly, I mean you. Obviously no one agrees with you. You are, effectively at least, entitled to your opinion. Yet, the day when your opinion belittles members and disallows them the freedom or security to post freely, is the day I disregard it. Take a step back and look at yourself. You were, at one time, a "newbie." Maybe you should remember that you probably still are. Just because you don't agree with something doesn't make it wrong. But then again, to you, it might. You're probably a Republican.

In all the time I've been around this joint, I don't believe I've ever seen a newbie calling out other newbies. Didn't anyone tell you that was a God-given right of the people who have been here at least as early as 2002? This is a new low for MSM. A serious low. Asspoo was right. And I feel a for-what-it's-worth-point coming on. Most people don't think # of posts is a particular positive claim to fame. Quantity does not necessarily = quality. Hating to beat a dead horse, I'll still say again, a little of that Burberry plaid goes a long way.

That's true. I was also going to add that the number of posts doesn't amount to being around here for a long time. I've been here for years, and yet I don't have a zillion posts. Then there are some people who make 500 posts in a month. |
