Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None I just sent this email to Local-83 Help Desk, to find out a couple of things about my membership at Local-83 and maybe you guys can help me out: 1) Am I suppose to receive by mail any kind of package? It says on the website the following "LOCAL 83 MEMBERSHIP PACKAGE - All new and renewing members will receive a package full of great John Mayer items to welcome them into the Listeners Union. ". I did not receive anything as such 2) Are there any plans to update the website?? For instance, the sweepstakes contest that is currently there is from the Trio time (february??). The media part is outdated.... with the photos from 2004....!??! For now, the only cool part is the Message Board and the advance ticketing... However My Stupid Mouth Message Board (which is free) has a lot more content. Any ideas>?

The trump card that Local-83 has are the presales. John is very very good about letting MusicToday take care of fan club members as far as tickets. Anything else they fan club people promise, take it with a grain of salt. It's really not a big deal - the only reason you are in the fan club anyway is for (in previous years) meet & greet chances, and (present day) soundcheck access, and of course good tickets. They deliver on that.. that's all I really expect from them.

Yeah, there's a lot of stuff that's outdated, and more than once they've put out incorrect info...but I got great seats for last night's show so I have nothing to complain about. If you want accurate and up-to-date info, this is the place to get it, or on johnmayer.com . I mostly just lurk here and I go on a lot of JM sites but this is the one where you'll find all the key info. Oh, and the membership package...fahgettaboutit.

My only reason for joining however was the ticket sales, which have always been brilliant for me. I cant really complain about it. Love Shelley :) Rock is attending 48 concerts in a single year, most of them for free, hanging out with local and international musicians, having the editor of the biggest local music magazine giving you birthday cards, shooting more tequila than you can count, hosting cocktail parties, being the last one out on every pub crawl, flying over to Melbourne at the drop of a hat, attending more Fringe shows than anyone you've ever known, having friends all over the world, and making a new friend at every show you go to.

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I joined 2 years ago for the presales... and was unsuccessful at getting tickets for a presale maybe 6-8 times... it NEVER worked for me, but seemed to work for everyone else. I always got better seats thru ticketmaster. then i got an email from music today saying they wanted me to renew!? i wrote back a scathing email about.. why should i renew when i never even got my membership kit.. a year later!? i never got one ticket thru the L83 presale... why should i give you more of my money? they wrote back and apoligized and said they would give me another year for free and promised me theyd send stuff to me - they did renew me for free, but i never recieved anything else.. just this past week with all the presale nonsense for the webster hall show - ive had it.. i got thru on ticektweb and got as many tix as i wanted with no problems.. i have never had a problems getting tix with any other outlet EXCEPT L83. they are the worst.. id rather NOT have tickets then have to deal with L83 presale nonsense... Ive lost too much sleep, and had too many ulcers from that crap. id rather just use ticketmaster and get just as good seats.

I got to go to the Knitting Factory show, The trio show at Bowery Ballroom and scored some decent seats through the pre-sale for other shows. I got to do a meet and greet, and had the opportunity to go to soundchecks (even though I coudln't go) And now I'm going to the Webster Hall show on Wed. Granted, the pre-sale for that particular show was a mess and pretty aggravating. But so far that's been the only problem I've faced. The package is lame, and if you don't get it, you're not missing much. I did enjoy my free subscription to RS. I don't like RS that much but I like free magazines.

I'm in Canada and I was fully expecting to get a subscription to Rolling Stone. After emailing L83, I got no response but I later found out through the message board that we just simply get shafted in Canada and don't get the magazine subscription or membership package or anything! I have half a mind to write them a stinker and warn them of false advertising but I'm not sure that they would read it or even care.

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	when you first get on L-83 to use the pre-sale, you have a 99.9% chance of getting "sold out" messages the first dozen or so times you try. This doesn't mean they are sold out. Just keep trying. Eventually you'll get a spot. Also, it's best to wait about an hour after presale goes on sale. Or even a day after. You tend to get better tickets. I'm guessing you've "never got tickets" through L-83 because you saw the "sold out" message 10 seconds after the presale started, you got mad, and turned your computer off... patience is the word of the day on presale. Just keep cracking at it - you'll have a 100% success rate on getting good tickets.

I let it lapse and then rejoined last year and I haven't gotten the package again, even though I was supposed to. I have had really good luck with L-83 tickets. Never farther back then fourth row at any show. I haven't had luck with any of the exclusive or smaller shows but that's because I've never thrown my hat into the ring. I feel like it's worth it for the tickets but I don't really think they should promise that package if they can't seem to get it out to anyone. -Heather Great Indoors Deal with it. It's rock'n'roll.

They only updated like 3 times the entire 2 years I was a member. I cancelled my membership because I never felt like I got what was promised. Its assinine to continue paying money for something that might happen (i.e. maybe getting good seats, maybe getting meet and greets, maybe getting email updates) when there are things that are guaranteed that you aren't getting. Even if its only $25 or whatever, I would never take $25 out of my own pocket and flush it down the toilet or throw it out in the street. Why would I join L-83 and do the same thing? This is an old argument though. I'm surprised this is the first time you are hearing about it. D-38 for lyfe!

However, like some have said, I keep it strictly for the pre-sales, and once you know how to get the good tickets (ie. trying for hours) from the presales, everything is good. I no longer go there expecting updates. I still don't know if I have ever received a welcome package or a renewal package. Although, the membership to Rolling Stone is nice. Here is the latest of my problems with them though! Yes, I am a sucker and I pre-ordered Continuum through Local-83! So really, it is my own stupidity that got me into this mess. I did it after I bought my tickets through the presale this go around. I got the stupid package that included a membership, guitar pick etc. Again, stupid I know. However, it just hit me that now I have 2 memberships? I emailed to ask if that is going to be the case or if they could just extend the date on my existing membership to the date this new one would go to. The customer service person said it would be too confusing to figure out the memberships and extend them. It isn't a big deal I guess. But since I purchased this pre-order through my current membership, how hard would it really be to figure it out. Eh - whatever, again the only thing I expect of this membership is to get good tickets through presales and get my tickets on time.

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	when i joined in '04, i actually got two membership packages about 3 months apart from each other. i let mine expire and renewed at discount in june when tix for this tour were being presold. still haven't gotten a membership package or an issue of rolling stone that apparently came with the membership... the three times i've gotten tix through l-83, i haven't had a problem (minus getting webster hall tix because they didn't update the site or whatever happened...but i still got them later.) '04 i got front section row F, '06 i got front section row S. guess i can't really complain...

They made me feel that I'm not the only one here wondering the real benefits. It turns out to be really the pre-sales tickets, which honestly would be fair if the system works. For example, this last week we went to the concert here in Detroit (DTE) and I've got 2 tickets on row Q... (17th row??) towards the left of the stage (DRH). Let's be honest: a) they could hire 1-2 people just to organize this membership stuff (i.e sending the package, double memberships, international users, etc). b) they could use another person to update the website (exclusive sweepstakes, videos, interviews, etc). To me, it seems that we could have more (when we compare to other well organized fan-clubs like Pearl Jam, U2, Coldplay, just to name a few...
