Wow....Just all making me smile at the moment. It's funny. Earlier my husband asked me where John was performing tonight. I said "Um, I think
he's off tonight on his way to Ohio" Ha! Wrong!

Billy Joel is and amazing. I have seen him several times and he is truly an incredible performer and songwriter. He was at JM' s show in Miami 2007 but did
not take the stage.

OMG, that would have been amazing. I've seen Billy Joel 4 times, twice at Madison Square Garden, and it really is something special to hear him play in
NYC. He and JM together in NYC? What a treat! Wish I had been there. The NY Times review does say this show was being filmed for a documentary, so
eventually there should be some nice footage of their song together.

Last night was AMAZING!
I found out from the Chimp the night before that JM was sitting in for a song and I actually had no plans prior to attend. Pretty randomly, a few hours before the show, I received an invite to go and there was pretty much no way I was going to turn it down. So to those of you claiming "lucky," I'd say that's a pretty fair statement here. I won't claim to be an ardent Billy Joel fan, but I am definitely a fan. I own records of his and have seen him live before. I've heard (by the ardent Billy Joel fans) that his shows have been hit or miss ever since he went into his long battle with alcoholism. Don't know if that's true or not, but last night was the best I had seen of him. Maybe it was the "Last Show at Shea" moniker, maybe it was because of the history there with the Beatles, maybe it was the 50,000+ people, maybe it was the special guests or some other reason, but it was a fantastic show. All the guests that came out were really fantastic. I was really interested to see how the crowd would react once BJ announced JM was coming out. The crowd went absolutely nuts when Tony Bennett came out and not that I expected anything negative, but you figure the reaction is probably going to be different for JM than it was for Tony Bennett. Billy Joel, and I'm paraphrasing, introduced John as a really great guitar player. Once "These Are the Times" began and after John had played the first few riffs of the song (with his own touch of course), Billy said something along the lines of it being great and that he wanted John to play it again, which John obviously did. You've probably seen the video clips by now so you can get a good feeling for the song. The solos were amazing and it's always interesting to see JM in a different role on stage. I thought he appeared a little nervous (who wouldn't be in that situation though). The crowd definitely was into it and JM was well received before and even better after. It was a good song choice because it lended itself to JM adding his own flavor to the song. At any rate, a fantastic evening! -RY |

of course the critics killed him. They always have to say how boring he is. Do they go to the same shows and see the same artist we do?

Pat, is that you in your avatar?
(Even though I've seen your pic, for some reason I associate everyones avatars here with their RL faces. It gets hella confusing with all the JM avatars....)

I spent last weekend camping in a field in the middle of Ireland drinking copious amounts and rocking out to, in order, dEUs, Ben Folds (AWESOME), Interpol,
Kings of Leon, Seasick Steve (Freakin' amazing, go listen now people), The Prodigy and Rage Against the Machine (Also saw The Blizzards, The Kooks, The
Fratellis and The Kaiser Chiefs, but that was only because I was camped out in the pit for Rage)
So yea, been offline. Oh and working all week. I missed so much John stuff I couldn't bring myself to read through it all....OHH LOOK WHAT I BOUGHT!! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3182/2629105372_398ab63858.jpg Sorry, got all exicted, just saw the little fella in the corner of my eye. So yea, that either answers your question or further cements your opinion of me as legally insane in 57 states. I swear, if yuku farts when I hit post I will kill someone.... Edit: Hurrah, finally got working avatar! 'tis me with some man I met at the JM gig in Bryant Park last Summer. He was awfully nice. Said he was interested in sound engineering. Wonder what he ever made of himself....

Billy Joel has always been a stellar performer. His concerts in the '70's were the epitome of excellence, and his shows with Elton John were superb.
So glad Mayer had the opportunity to play with one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Rock on. Wish I could have seen this one..............

The guitar work on the original studio recording of "This Is The Time" is outstanding... and was done by Billy's former lead guitar player
David Brown.... It has barely been played since he left the band in 1991... His current guitar players jsut don't approach it as it need be... so it is a
rarity these days... I will say... John came about as close to the David Brown flavor as it gets... sounded great.
