Thanks RY and john, I know these interviews will always be a good read and that I can believe every word, unlike probably anything else on the internet or tv when it comes to john these days. And its about stuff I want to know rather than where he went for dinner. He sounds really happy with the music right now and by the sounds of things that's coming across on stage each night. Probabaly about time he came back to NZ then. But wear your armour, because down here it'll probably be all about where you went for dinner. Small country you see. Nothing better to do. I've always kind of felt he's a bit pissed off when he comes down here. Not as relaxed on stage. I've always put it down to annoying media. Anyhoo. I think its about time he spat out that acoustic record he's teased a few times over the years. Im sure he's got tons of
sweet acoustic tunes on the shelf. Free fallin, tracing, IYA - those were all surprise hits with the fans - time to connect the dots buddy :- ). Just call it
b-sides to cover your ass if you raelly must. I've had to restrict myself to 1 free fallin listen a week I love it so much and don't want to get sick
of it.

Definitely agree with you Suzanne on the fact that he never seems as relaxed on a New Zealand stage! You'd think it would be the opposite..fresh air to
breathe and what not but I guess the crowd just doesn't have the familiarity of the US. I really hope he gives us another taster soon though. Been hanging
out since the last one in 2006.
On-topic note: Loved reading the interview...You can hear the honesty in his answers. Thanks RY

Wonderful interview as always RY.. Roz & Suzanne, have to agree - he's always EXHAUSTED by the time he gets here... Never feels like we get 100% but
I'm happy that at least we get him. Lot's of bands don't even bother coming, so I'm definately grateful. I'm hoping he'll come to
bluesfest next year... (We got the highlights of the Byron Bay festival, Buddy Guy, Xavier Rudd, KT Tunstall etc over in the Coromandel last Easter..) John
seems to be enjoying the festivals - so i'm hoping against hope he's considering it. I'm thinking about a petition. If you'd sign it - PM me!
NZ Mayer fans unite for a better festival....
You can take all the tricks up my sleeve.... |

It's refreshing when you put these up, aware that with your knowledge of john's musical history it's going to be something worth reading.
Great questions. Thanks yet again for doing this, RY. |

Thanks for all the kind words, people. Really glad this tradition has lived on year after year and that I've been able to continue to do these and post
them.
Great job. I assume you are or are aspiring to be a journalist because all of your interviews are top notch and deserve notice!!! I've been asked this over the years and it's never been an aspiration of mine per se, but I do enjoy doing it and if there were an easy way to become more involved with music journalism I would be all about it! |

Great interview, Ry. I love this annual blessing on MSM, because the trust between you and John bleeds into the interview. You're both very fortunate to
know one another.
