it definitely lives up to the trailer. francois is so atypical of his characters...but it's brilliant. and the rest of the cast is pitch perfect.

will formulate more thoughts tomorrow...but just had to pop in and tell you all to circle 11/13 (limited), or 11/20 (national) on your calendars and go see
'the messenger' that weekend when it opens. hands down, one of the best movies i've ever seen. of all the movies i've seen so far at film fest,
this was the first one i've been at that got a standing ovation.

why is this place so dead? I know that's been asked 1000000 times but no one has answered it to my satisfaction.

ok....fri-sun film fest recap
precious- intense and hard to watch, but filled with amazing performances (even from mariah carey). the movie lingers with you long after... harmony & me- cute story about a hapless guy that can't keep a girl. best part is bob schneider as a wedding singer. the director was a drama queen though. the vicious kind- really fantastic performances from a strong cast- jk simmons, brittney snow, adam scott and alex frost. dad and 2 sons family dramedy centered around weekend the new gf of the younger brother comes to visit. adam scott deserves many acting awards for his performance. tenure- charming, sweet, funny movie with luke wilson as a college professor seeking tenure. one of the most well-cast movies out there. nothing too groundbreaking, but well executed and well acted. little fish, strange pond- matthew modine...absurdist comedy...i was tired during this movie, and it was hard to stay focused. very weird movie, i will probably have to see again to formulate any real thoughts the messenger- see my previous post. my pick for best of fest. imo, award winning performances by ben foster and woody harrelson from a fantastic script by first time director oren moverman ('i'm not there'). sad, tragic, funny, raw, and hopeful...the story of 2 soldiers who must break the news to families of fallen soldiers. in the q/a after the movie moverman and harrelson talked about how it was made. they only did it in 28 days, with no rehearsels. the cast didn't have a lot of interaction before either (he didn't introduce the actors playing the next of kin to ben foster and woody harrelson for more organic performances). and there's not a lot of cutting back and forth...lots of long shots just focusing on the moment. ~ dawn

I see that, mama. Where have all the good folks gone? I expected to pop back in and read a very entertaining AP. But, instead, I got a completely dead and useless AP and semi-happening JMc. Can we blame it on the economy? |

It's called "The Awesome Thread" and everyone here should go there. In the Musicians Forum. No music talked about on that 700+ thread. 15 pages
added last night.

August and Hillbilly, pretty dead, pretty dead. Think of all the reasons you guys have been away from the board, multiply them by all the old skool posters
doing similar activities = MSM in repose. Welcome back and I hope you start posting again. The few that are left could use the good company.
The children all grow up and go away....................
