Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	The only times audio was not okay that I can think of off hand, was three times.. eddies in Dec 05, John said he would release that so no audio taping. Nokia the first year, when it was filmed for the DVD and Chicago during the trio tour when it also was supposed to be filmed for DVD... I didn't audio to any extent before 04 so ??? Each of those times had a reason behind changing the policy. HA! You are right, Debbie... there were those exceptions... perhaps others, I dont' know.... so I guess audio hasn't *always* been okay. But that is what I get for forgetting what my English teachers told me... if it says always or never, you can bet it's not true. I also agree that it seems perfectly fair not to release audio or video of the parts of the cruise that were just for the mayercrafters... all I ever hoped for was the music and those tapes are amazing. I'm sure a few people were audiotaping the Q and A sessions even though they knew it was against John's wishes. So, the videotapers shouldn't be getting ALL the grief. I don't audio or videotape at any JM concert (I do take lots of pictures). I like to enjoy the music and dance with my friends. I don't sing along loudly off-key, but if anyone ever "shushed" me because they were trying to get a clear tape I would lose my damn mind. If I wanted to sit quietly in my seat with my hands folded on my lap, I'd go to church. I KIND of get the "what happens in/at/on the blah blah stays in/at/on the blah blah" theory, but that just doesn't cut it in 2009. People want to show off their audio and video tapes. People want to send in their stories from boat. People want to show us their pictures. And THANK GOD they do... it's awesome advertising for next year.

No one said last year that we were not supposed to audio record the Q&A...I was sitting there with a mic on and John even commented on it...not to bring it up again but if they didn't want me to audio tape, they all know who I am. All they had to do was ask and I would have given them my sd card on the way out or whatever...but no one said audio taping was prohibited.... and no one asked me not to tape. This year they said no video taping at the Q&A but again audio...not a word about it.....exactly the same as last year....no video taping...audio was fine... For the soudcheck on this boat the same was true. Like I said I don't see the difference but for the boat the Q&A's audio taping was fine... I just hate seeing audio and video being lumped together. debbie there came a moment in the middle of the song when he suddenly felt every heartbeat in the room & after that he never forgot he was part of something much bigger...Brian Andres

As those cameras can capture enough light without it. And one way to eliminate videotaping is to offer videos for sale. But yeah audiotapes are good enough for me. When I mentioned audiotapers, I didn't mean specifically you. I just want you to know that. I also didn't know that John saw your microphone. When he commented on it, did you ask him if it was okay to go ahead and tape? Maybe he was TRYING to ask you in a gracious non-grumpy-old-man way. Kind of like when I was a kid and my dad would say, "You're wearing your new sandals out to play???" He knew he would guilt me into changing my shoes. I did the right thing without being hollered at. Really, no harm intended. I just felt bad that the videotapers were getting scolded. You know how I am.

It would be awesome if they sold copies of the audio that Chad records from the booth. it seems to be industry standard for concerts to ban the use of SLRs. it used to make sense to me because SLRs could get fairy tight shots that "consumer cameras" if you will could not. typically the people who had those types of cameras were part of the press and they could sell the photos to papers, magazines, etc. however, consumer cameras have gone down in price and up in specs to the point that i can literally match some of my photos, taken with a point and shoot, with some of the photos taken by a DSLR in the photo well in quality, composition...everything. every manual override those guys have and use on their cameras i have and use on mine. the only difference is that i have to shoot around people's heads rather than being right underneath the act's nose in the photographer's well. i do not use my flash, btw. especially when i'm in a low light setting. it has zero to do with having an SLR camera. those who use flash at concerts are either a) too lazy to set up their manual overrides to use the camera without flash (maybe they don't know how to turn it off, too) or b) too stupid/inconsiderate to realize they're blinding the performer in front of them. i had a security guard on the boat come up to me as i pulled out my camera and very nicely say something like 'miss...if you're taking pictures, please turn off your flash.' and i looked at him and went 'well of course...don't want the poor guy to fall off the stage!' he laughed and said something like 'i wish more people understood why we ask...' i can't tell you how many people i saw running around on the boat with fancy cameras and everything was set to auto...and their pictures still looked like shit. if you spend the money, learn how to use the thing as it was intended. ok...done with my photography rant. to keep this cruise related...i definitely have some photos where i can see pretty much up mayer's nose. from the look of it, he was not suffering from a cold or anything while on board. From my point of view (being as I was sitting next to Debbie when this was said) he wasn't in a grumpy mood (drunk yes, maybe annoyed as hell that he had to get up and do this). I get what you're saying YTM, but he was joking around with her, there was no asking in a roundabout way not to do something, he would have just come right out and told her not to. As Debbie's said ad nauseum, John, Ken, etc knows she tapes and there was nothing said about not audiotaping any of this. Ken would have had no issue walking up to her and asking for the SD card. There was zero issue about this last year from his camp. Don't think there was an issue about it this year except here and we are the ONLY ones in society who cares about this, the general population could care less.....again in the whole scope of life whether there's an audio of this or not probably ranks as a zero in their heads, they've moved on with life and are busy geeking out with setting up as many amps as possible in the studio and what the next twitter can be... This is just beating a dead horse going on and on about it. Let's think up something new to talk about, anyone have great random pictures of the cruise to keep sharing? I'll look through mine to see what I can share... Moving on.... Lez

It really was one of those things that should stay between the people who were there (IMO). The fact that my mom called me and said "I saw video of him talking about perez!" creeps me out to no end. And by any chance did anybody get the whole OAR/Guster jam?? 'cause that really was the musical highlight of the entire cruise.
