debbie there came a moment in the middle of the song when he suddenly felt
every heartbeat in the room & after that he never forgot he was part of something much bigger...Brian Andres

I haven't been able to find it online. I think we'll have to wait for someone to scan it in and post it here?

Pretty much a shitty thing for RS to do. I love how it's sourced youtube instead of a album. Don't let it get to you JM.

Oh man. Is 'Nicole' writing for Rolling Stone or some smutty tabloid?

What a weird thing to do. John's posted a pretty abusive twitter (fair enough!) about the "August 12th 2009" issue...which obviously hasn't
been released yet!....A release date for Battle Studies maybe?!

He had a song that was reviewed before it was even finished. So he made a joke about a future issue of Rolling Stone being crappy that hasn't been published yet...get it? joke... funny.. no hidden agenda, just funny. debbie there came a moment in the middle of the song when he suddenly felt

One day... in a land far far away, we will learn to be patient and kind... To review a unfinished, unrecorded, song is a bit unprofessional and RS is
definitely digging deep to start the early criticisms of the new album. Be patient, RS, it will be worth the wait... we promise...

I agree about the "whiny falsetto." that part of the song drives me crazy. hopefully some studio time and steve jordan telling him what sounds good
and what doesn't will smooth it out a little.
and where did we get the idea that the magazine called it a single? it was put on youtube for all to see so why shouldn't they review it? obviously JM gets readers attention if they're gonna go this far to review a youtube clip. let them think what they think |

this isn't the first time rolling stone has reviewed unfinished or unreleased material. i was just leafing through an old issue trying to figure out which
one this review popped up in and under "Hot Singles", they're reviewing several songs that were leaked to the internet, or songs that are only
available on artists' myspace pages. i've always respected rolling stone's opinions on music despite occasionally disagreeing with them, but these
kind of reviews are completely suspect if you ask me. generally, leaked material makes it onto a record at some point, but not necessarily in the form it first
shows up on the net as. not very responsible "journalism" (if you can even consider journalism still alive these days) if you ask me.

Reader picks up random copy of Rolling Stone at bookstore, thumbs through and "John Mayer" catches his or her eye. They've never heard of
"Heartbreak Warfare" but see it's on youtube, they go home and watch the video. Next time said reader is in the bookstore, instead of thumbing
through the issue, they buy it to see what else they can find.
Rolling Stone doesn't care if the song isn't released yet or even layed down on a studio track, they care about selling magazines and selling advertising in those magazines. We're upset because it only got a 2-star review and because Mayer seemingly doesn't seem to be so happy about it. It's the price of popularity. If we like the music, what does it matter what Nicole Freshseliafsdfli thinks? We have to stop being defensive fans and just be fans. Maybe i'm getting a little too far into it here, but we seem to be overreacting. |

ehhhhh critics work the opposite way with me...If they hate it I will pick it up just to form my own opinion. especially movies. critics are popular because
it is much more controversial to write a scathing review than write one where they actually like something. In other words..if a restaurant critic says over
and over that every restaurant was wonderful they would fire his sorry ass. a few pointed reviews and..poof instant media star. How do you think Mr
Blackwell got so popular...believe me it wasn't for his BEST dressed list.
debbie Oh and i didn't find his falsetto whiny at all. I really love the lyrics... the red wine and ambien , you're talking shit again...gets me every time. there came a moment in the middle of the song when he suddenly felt
every heartbeat in the room & after that he never forgot he was part of something much bigger...Brian Andres

A review of an unfinished song from a fan's YouTube clip seems really unfair of Rolling Stone. And I hope this review doesn't have an impact on
what John puts/doesn't put on the album. That would piss me off.
