Earlier this morning, we lost of the most important voices in music history.
James Brown, also known as The Godfather of Soul, passed away at age 73 around 1:45 am (local time) this morning in Atlanta.

If you didn't get the chance to read it, here is what John had to say about some of his music in a blog a few months ago:
WEEKEND LISTENING: JAMES BROWN, IN THE JUNGLE GROOVE
Hello, boys and girls. Do you know what funky is? No, I don't mean FunkyBack. I mean funky. Funky so funky that I'm not even allowed to pronounce it. It can only be so much as typed by young men from rural Connnecticut. You may think you know what funky is. Maybe your friend or relative once played you something they called "funky". You may have even been moved to use the F word at a free outdoor concert at a gazebo. It don't concern me none. The point is, In The Jungle Groove is one of the most seminal funk-soul records of all time. The track "Funky Drummer" has spawned countless loop-theft imitations, and the revised version of "Talkin' Loud and Sayin' Nothing" is so good it's trouble. All of it is great.
Check it out.
