So we just had an earthquake in LA. I was thinking 4.5 or something? Pretty long too.
ETA: Maybe a little stronger. Edit #2- So it was a 4.7 that lasted about 15-to-20 seconds. Centered near Hawthorne.

I'm ok. I am about 10 miles east of where it hit. It has been unofficially declared as a 5.0, which is a pretty decent size quake. I just talked to some
friends in the immediate area and they are ok, but they had a little damage with stuff on shelves falling.

In any case, we have been having quite a few of these earthquakes in the last couple months. Get used to 'em. |

actually this was the only earthquake I ever heard coming... I have lived here all my life. It sounded like a plane was 2 ft above my house ...like a roar
that built up and then the shaking..lasted quite a while... pretty good one. I am about 20 miles from Hawthorn...but that was a weird one.

After our 5.2 quake in the Midwest (!) last year, I have a new found respect for Earth's shuddering. Such a bizarre sensation.... Just another reason I
could never, ever live in CA.

my sister lives in Playa del Rey and felt it and aftershocks. I believe she's very close to the epicenter but I don't know LAs areas very well
