Fender 65 Twin or Deluxe Reverb? |
Lead | |
|
So I am looking at buying either a Fender Twin or a Deluxe Reverb. I've had a Deluxe Reverb once upon a time, but I was wondering what you guys think.
I'm looking for punchy and chimy cleans. Somewhat like Mayer's tone on Covered in Rain. Love those cleans. I know the Deluxe doesn't have a mid
knob on it, but do you guys think that would matter too much since I already cut my mids out quite a bit?

Lots of things to consider.
They're very different amps, yet similar in many ways as well. Deluxe, Only 18 watts compared to the 85 watts the Twin reverb is. What are you doing with it? Do you need lots of head room? Twin reverb. Do you not want to throw out your back in two years? Deluxe Reverb. I think mids don't change THAT much even on the twin reverb. Neither amp is a midranged amp to begin with. Next set of consideration. Covered in Rain from any given thursday was from a special amp, it won't be achieved with either amp. I think it was a tonemaster or something. I prefer the twin, I think they both suck at taking pedals but the twin just is a clean beast, very chimy.

be aware, the twin is bright even with the bright switch off.

I disagree about that erich. I think compared to the deluxe it's not much brighter.

Wasn't the "special" amp on Covered in Rain used only for the solo?
I'm brazilian, if you'd like to know. Sorry for any english mistakes!

i think he kicked on a vibroverb for the solo but it was a tone master through the song. i think.

i'd just get a twin. something more glassy, a super reverb.
why? i never liked deluxes. but again, just my opinion (which is probably invaluable, haha) |

You played a twin reverb and didn't like it...Most people think the twin's got one of the best cleans in the fender lineup. Did you hav it past 2 on
the volume? It sounds like crap if it can't be a little bit loud

that might have been it...but it didn't sound sharp at all...not sure why though.

yea, you'd really need to turn the amps up.
however, amps do sound different from each other, even if they are the same model. that's what i noticed when guitar center had a surplus of twin reverbs. i set them all to the same settings (i even checked to see if they all roll back to 1s on the knobs), and they sounded pretty different each time. most customers don't know how to treat the amps when they enter the store |

Yeah Which is why I wouldn't buy a floor amp if I can help it.
Speaking of twin reverbs, I think mines dying. It's fizzing, coughing and sneezing. I think my speaker/speakers are going out...
