Like it's a rule that Hendrix has to be at a certain level, or it's a rule that Mayer has to be below him. There are no rules in this discussion unless the rules are made clear from the beginning. We would have to break this discussion into a hundred different categories, like who is most creative, most technical, fastest, 25 categories for tone, and so on. And then the discussion is still never going to be objective because we can't help letting our thoughts of these artists through and how much they've influenced you. It's too complicated of a debate. People equate influence with talent which is wrong. Obviously Clapton doesn't suck, but if he's never influenced a person and that person has gotten nothing out of his playing, he'll say Clapton sucks... The discussion I prefer is "Top 10 Most Influential Guitarists to You." Then everyone is cool with everyone's opinions.
