I posted this on the other side, but will here too...

What's so crazy about this is just how fast the news spread. I mean, the second the news hit...it was like the whole world knew. I've never seen anything quite like it my lifetime.

My fondest MJ memory was when I was 3 years old. I will never forget it. I was with my dad and my uncle and Friday Night Videos (anyone remember that show) aired the "Thriller" video and I was scared out of my mind. I was noticeably flustered and begging my father for intervention, to which he replied, "I am calling them up right now and asking them to take this off" (which later I found out never happened--Thanks Dad). I remember being so conflicted between not watching at all or watching and being scared. I opted more for the latter because it captured my attention unlike anything else had in my young life. It's definitely 1 of my oldest and fondest childhood memories. I slept with the lights on that night for sure.

MJ reminds me of Marilyn Monroe in 1 major way (outside of them both dying young). They both shined in the spotlight, but were completely different people outside of it. If MJ was in that spotlight...he became almost unhuman like in the way that he could captivate massive audiences and he was hitting out of the park at 11 years old. He was charismatic, he was charming, he vocally was in a different universe and his dancing was not only great, but it was innovative. Almost even a first of its kind. His melodies were unique and he was fresh in every way possible. He has inspired a LOT of musicians (and I know for a fact that 1 of those musicians is the guy who this very message board was started after). But when he wasn't on stage...he was a different guy. He was shy, he was socially awkward, he was completely stripped of a normal childhood and he had many other oddities about him...some that were public and true and some he may have been falsely accused for being involved with.

Love Michael Jackson or hate him, the 1 thing that can't be denied was his immense amount of talent. I think there are very few people (unless they're crazy) that didn't respect him as an artist. Having spent quite a bit of time on Twitter last night...I saw musicians from all different spectrums (far far removed from modern "pop" music) paying their respects to the "King Of Pop." It was very cool to see.

I truly don't believe we will ever see a new worldwide sensation as big or as talented as the Michael Jackson. He was a musical legend and we now live in an era where new music legends just aren't being born. His music, love or hate him, WILL live on. There's not a doubt in my mind.
